(T -A photo) Blyth Centre gets $1,000 bill BLYTH - Mason Bailey is tired of sympathy. His conflict with the con- tractor over the new addition to the Memorial Hall has come to a head and Mr. Bailey has presented council and the Blyth Centre for the Arts with a bill for $1,000. He said that the bill will pay for out-of-pocket ex- penses incurred during the installation of a holding tank on Mr. Bailey's lot. Agricrew available Agricrew is available for is second year to farmers in. Huron and Perth counties. After a very successful summer last year it is hoped that it will be just as 'successful or even more so now that it ha.S-had a good start. The program provides farmers with additional workers for limited periods of time ,when their requirements for help are at a peak. A crew consists of four.. young people, three crew members and one foreman. These crews of young, energetic people are ensured varied agricultural experience as they work on different' types of farms. The tasks that they will be prepared to do will range from painting, fencing and general cleanup to haying, cleaning pens and harvesting. For a limited fee, a farmer can have the help of these young people on a daily basi's starting June 23. ' Farmers are en- couraged to call their local Agricultural Office as soon as possible in regards to Agricrew as the program is based on a first-come - first-served basis. To hire an Agricrew or for more information', call Heather Boyle, Huron -Perth Co- ordinator in the Stratford Agricultural Office at 271- 0280. . Chris Borgal, architect on the project explained that while footings for the addition were being put in, the drainage overflow from the septic tank was flowing into the footings. A new tank had to be installed and the con- tactor assured Mr. Borgal that the' work would be done during a warm spell last January. The work was started, but not completed and when weather turned cold the water pipes to Mr. Bailey's building froze and tenants were without water and parking space. The $1,000 Mr. Bailey is requesting would cover the $500 worth of gravel and grading he had done to the parking lot before he knew the tank was going in. He had a portion of a brick wall taken down to accommodate scaffolding for the con- tractor and paid $98 for the curb. At present one tenant has refused to pay her rent because of the inconvenience. The Honorable Frank Miller, Treasurer, and the Honourable Lorne Henderson, Minister of Agriculture and Food, made a joint an- nouncement in the legislature May 8 which spelled out the provincial government's intent to assist farm interest payments with a $30 million fund. , _._._..Bar r i e , President of OFA, said he appreciates the provincial government's action. "But", he said, "the program will be adequate only if matched dollar for dollar by the Federal government." The provincial program will provide a three percent subsidy for interest on loans up to $50,000 if the farmer's debt-to-equity ratio is 50 percent or higher. Barrie said the' $50,000 maximum loan limit is too low to cover many farmers' current debt positions. "I hope this limit will be raised where need is demonstrated", he said. The mechanics of the program will be developed next week by a joint committee, com- 414 APPLIANCE REPAIR posed of representatives of the OFA, the Ministry of Agriculture and Food, the Ministry of Treasury and the banks. Barrie emphasized that the provincial program is not adequate in itself and that he has a com- mitment from the provincial government to work with OFA to achieve additional federal par- ticipation. Federal aid is needed immediately, said Barrie, because many farmers will not be able Large or small, we'll fix them all... Our repair experts will have your appliance in tip top shape fast.
