In other words, the Trinity and its adherents verses Monotheism and its adherents. Since this is such a fundamental issue to Christianity and so many people take Christianity seriously, I feel this question, is of profound significance indeed. As well, I submit that the readers of this column are the "judges' and the `jury' of this great issue, because we have observed the 'lawyers' giving their defences and their charges. As in any courtroom, we attempt to prove truth on the basis of logic and reason, because truth is always in harmony with itself. The observed facts, as well, constitute a basis of proof. But most im- portantly, the Bible is the primary implement for establishing the truth of this matter. It is for these reasons, therefore, that I would like to object to the unethical techniques and questionable tactics employed by several of these 'lawyers'. I object • to the unfounded statements and unproven arguments, that barely qualify to be called opinions. For instance, Mr. D'Haene accused Mr. Barney of not studying the scriptures deeply. How on earth does he know how long or how deeply or how often Mr. Barney studies the scriptures? Has he in- terrogated Mr. Barney and forced confession out of him? As well, he blindly accuses Jehovah's Witnesses of "preferring to debate biblical issues with people who are biblically illiterate" "with a zeal worthy of a better cause" and of "disseminating deadly hatred". Has he con- ducted a survey or has he questioned them why they preach? Who ap- pointed him as a reader of minds, a discerner of motives, and a judge of the heart? What self- respecting jury would listen to this 'evidence'? I. protest the hypocrisy and double standards. D'Haene convicts Jehovah's Witnesses of publishing a "constant barrage of Watchtower literature"; however almost all religions (and probably his own) -publish literature and remain guiltless. Why the double standard? What makes one right and the other wrong? • As with others who have written, he appears to be impressed by higher education, degrees and titles after one's name, as if this is a criterion, for identifying the true faith. Would a census • of who had the most scholars settle this matter? Would it have in Jesus' day? We note that the apostles and Jesus as well were common people without such an _education. Acts 4:13 says, "they were men unlet- tered and ordinary". Also the scriptures tell us, "not many wise in a fleshly way were called," I Cor 1:26. Obviously this isn't a precedent for proving the matter. For example, •,a judge can preside over a legal issue involving the medical practice without being a doctor. If he is Objective and listens to both sides, he can render a just decision. Consider the following material also put forth: The name Immanuel which means, "with us is God" supposedly proves the Trinity. Does this specifically , affirm the deity of Christ like Mr. D'Haene contends? If so, then we have even more reason to admit Michael as the fourth member of the Trinity as his name means "who is like God".
