Club to hold informal sailing races
BY
D. R. BUNDY -
The Goderich Sailing' -
Club will begin informal
races. this week, starting
at 6 p.m. each Wednesday
evening. Ken Dawson,
Commodore of the club,
says that several sailors
have indicated a desire to
hold additional races in
order to practise their
tactics and train their
crews. There will not be
any boat -class distinc-
tion, and starting and
timing will be done from
one of the lead boats..
Sailors who do not nor-
mally race in the -Sun -day -
morning events are isn-
vited to come out and
take part in these Wed-
nesday races.
In last Sunday's races,
which had the skippers
trying to figure out the
clocking wind shifts, Ken
Bauer in "Clairvoyant"
finished first, followed
closely by Steve
Youngblut in "Hawke".
After dropping a winch
handle overboard; and.
having . some spinnaker
trouble in the shifting
winds, Ken Dawson's
"Satin Doll" finished. 'a
distant third.
The two boats that
raced in the PHRF Class
finished with records
identical to last week's,
With Ly?la Meyers first and
Dick Taylor second.
This weekend the
Sailing Club will be trying
to finish some of the
painting that was started
last Saturday on the Snug
Harbour Pav'ilion.
Saturday evening is the
club's gourmet dinner
event at the Sunset Golf
Club, at which members
hope to savor foods with a
continental flair.
