Bud Worthy and Mel Bogie, Imperial 011 representatives in Goderich, presented the cheque Tuesday to Harold Bettger and Bill Ross, fund raising co-chairmen for the MacKay Centre. The objective of the fund raising committee is $15,000. To date, ap- proximately $8,000 has been raised. (Photo by Joanne Buchanan) Kingsbridge man returns BY DELORES Van OSCH Ray Dalton returned home last week after spending the past five months visiting with his son, Dan and wife, . Marilyn and family in Tuc- son, Arizona, and with daughter, Kathy, husband, Jim MacDonald and girls, in Vancouver. He visited other places as well, like Mexico and on his arrival back in Toronto, visited with rela- tives in Pickering, before returning home. Dr. Peter and Mrs. Bor- land and family of Clarkson, spent the weekend at their home here. Mr. and Mrs. Ron Durnin and family of Ingersoll visit- ed on Saturday with Mr. and Mrs. Vince Austin and family and with friends in the area. Congratulations to Jack and Rita Tigert, who cele- brated their 25th wedding anniversary on Saturday. Following a dinner with their family, a reception was held in their honour at Saltford Valley Hall for family, friends and -neighbours. They have family of four girls, Judy, Janice, Joan, and Jennifer; and three sons, Glen, Bob and Bill. The community extends their deepest sympathy to Bill VanDyke and Jean Van - Roy and their families on the sudden passing of their brother, John VanDyke in Holland in his 460. year. Brother Carl Voll leaves on Tuesday, May 13th on a three week tour to the Holy Land. This is a very well deserved holiday for Brother Carl. Congratulations to Mr. and Mrs. Werner Ritgen on the arrival this past week of a baby boy. This is their second son. A warm welcome by the community is. extended to Art and Linda (Vassella) Howler and family of four children, who moved into the community last weekend. The week started off with a Mass, followed by a hot dog lunch. for teachers, parents, and students in the church hall. Following the lunch a game of volleyball took place in the school gym between students and parents -tea. z<1‘-rs. t+flt On Tuesday he junior grades travelled to the Luck - now Nursing Home where they entertained the patients with songs and recitations and handed out fruit. On the same day, grades six to eight had their Frerich public speaking competition at the school. This is the third annual French orator- ical for the school, having originated as an idea of Principal, Dave Zyluk. Isobel spoke about Japan and its 114 million people as the group's missionary study. Charlotte Norman told the story of, a young Japanese boy wholurned to Christianity at the age of 16 and was ordained later in life as a minister and finally became a missionary. Bessie Townshend told of a woman who lived through the atomic bombing 'el Hirashima and is now living in Toronto. She is working for world peace without nuclear power and its tragicafter effects. Jean Ginn spoke about an attractive Japanese girl whom Robert Witmer met and married while he was working for the Christian Church in Japan. They have. two children and are presently living in Goderich. They plan to return to Japan to carry on their work. In business, an in- vitation to attend the Thankoffering meeting at Benmiller on May 7 was received, and also an invitation. to attend the Brucefield U.C.W. Annual Visitor's Day on June 3, , A new vacuum cleaner was purchased from Norholme of Clinton. Middleton Church Ladies are planning a bus trip to Torclnto Zoo and Casa Loma on May 26 for Holmesville news Blanche Deeves, correspondent 482-3383 interested men and women. They are also planning a June 23 trip to the Greenhouse and Marine Land in Niagra Falls. The date for the annual supper is June 5 at 5:00 p.rn.. Tickets are $4 and $2. Please bring articles for the bale before May 30. A $100 donation was given to Marilyn Cox, whose summer months are going to be spent in the West Indies with Crossroads Africa. CHURCH NEWS A large congregation attended Holmesville United Church on Family and Christian Sunday. Mrs. Marty -Lobb, Mrs. Donna Martin, and Miss Brenda Harris sang a hyinn. Mr. Oestreicher told the children, "The disciples were helpers. I hope you remember to, help your mothers and each other. Always be a helper." Mr. and Mrs., Gerry Innes and Mr. and Mrs. Delmer Schloendorf brought their mem- berships to Holmesville Church. Mr. and Mrs. Paul Blair presented their daughter__Eleanor Roberta for baptism. WOMEN'S INSTITUTE On Monday evening, , May 12, the Women's Istitute met in the public school with the president, Mrs. Millie Dempsey conducting and Mrs. Sarah Stor.ey at the piano. An executive meeting. is planned for May 21 at 1:30 at Mrs. Dempsey's. Since -May 19 is a holiday, the W.I. will not visit Huronview until June 16. The constitution and by-laws were received and a discussion held concerning how to make meetings more in- teresting to attract younger members. Mrs. Jean Lobb brought. a spoon hand engraved with the letter E. It was discovered by Mr. Dave Bartlett's class of VingliainPxtbTh School when they visited the Maitland Concession "dig" for pottery. A plant auction is planned forthe next meeting and the West Hon annual meeting will be in Goderich on May 26. SOCIAL NOTES Please note, the Enterprising Seniors will meet Thursday evening in the Holmesville Church at 8:00 p.m. Fran Powell is in charge of the entertainment. Julia and Michael Baucher, Becky and Christopher of London visited on -the weekend with Mrs. Phyllis Cox. Bob Cox is home from Carleton University in Ottawa for the summer and is presently working in the salt mine in Goderich. Shirley Norman was home on the weekend from Kitchener with her family, Mr. and Mrs. Bill Norman. Mrs. Charlotte Norman had a very pleasant Mother's Day with her family. The community is glad to hear that Clarence Perdue,is home from the hospital.
