high.
A tight duel soon
developed between Steve
Youngblut's white -hulled

Dawson's "Satin Doll".

County refuses golf course
BY
SHARON DIETZ
County Council upheld
a recommendation from
the county planping
board to designate the
Exeter Golf Course and
adjacent land
agricultural. Allan
Westcott, Exeter, who
owns the golf course had
applied to the planning -
board to amend the
County Official Plan and
have the land
redesignated golf course
and the 39 lots adjacent to
the . golf courge
redesignated residential.
Planning Board, in
their recommendation,
pointed out that the
agricultural designation
does, not restrict the
operation of the existing
golf course. Usborne
Township council and the
Huron Planning
Department do npt 'op-
pose the continued
operation of the golf
course.
The recommendation
.according to the planning
board does attempt. to
.prevent the proposed
strip residential
development from oc-
curring and to prevent an
increase in the restric-
tions on the surrounding
agricultural land.
County planner Gary
Davidson told council, to
designate the land
surrounding -t•he golf"
course as residential,
would seriously restrict
the agricultural land use
in the area. The en-
croachment factor, if the
land is • designated
agricultural would be
1,010 feet from the golf
course. If the land is
designated ..golf course
and residential, the en-
croachment factor will
increase to 2,000 feet and
move -auto, the
surrounding farmland:
Murray Daw.son,
deputy -reeve of Usborne,
told council if the land
were designated
residential, it would
infringe on 16 farms
because of the buffer zone
