V.C. 1430046 rI/JfaSal irAL 9rt11;o PAG ,Ik Round n1 • from page country, but if ytr4 Want to just enjoy the summer, the most beautiful spots are right nearby - often in your own backyard. It is all a state ofmind. - I'm thankful some very nice people pursuaded me to take a trip over- seas, some years ago. I would not consider it now. So much has changed in the travel world. I would want to see it slow down a bit before I would make any plans. It is a joy to just drive down the street here. The "Gold Trees" are blooming - and I mean GOLD. Some years ago, Sarasota powers - that- be chose this tree as their own and planted -hun- dreds of them along the main streets, and all around. I am told these trees were almost wiped out one year and so a lot of them were lost. But there are still hundreds - all over the place - and I noticed some of the old twisted ones were a real deep gold color where the younger -looking trees are a beautiful true yellow. If you can imagine all this brilliant yellow with blues, from pale blue to a bright rosey mauve, alongside it, interspersed with startling solid whites, you can un- derstand whya lot of traffic is dawd-ling along,-' `just a lookin'. The Jacuaranda trees are in blues and mauves. Then there is another large tree with blossom shaped- like our trumpet vine bloom (as are the `GoldTree' blossoms) these trees are in deeper blues. So raising your eyes from the pavement - the colors are just breath- _ taking. And the sun has been blinding! I can't recall telling you - but last year, just before we left for home, I found some morning glories running wild and planted a piece of . root at the driveway. When we returned last December, morning glories were blooming like crazy right along the whole patio held up by bits of string here and there from our famous inside out rain troughs. Our neighbour W, had tied them up and she said she enjoyed them more than if they had been on her cottage. They hdveT"beeri a real con - versation piece as they are the only ones in the whicle park. They bloom constantly, brilliant blue - purple all day _changing 'to a lovely rose color by night. They also .change color in the day when a 'cold breeze comes along. Fantas tic. Walt has been very well - still a -sitting `though'. Since we have been here this winter, we have had another great-grandson and I have lost a brother- in-law. Son Don and Fran were down for about ten days or more - days that passed too quickly for them. Son Doug and Madeline had their trip to Acaupulco on the Pacific _and room„ y 4.e—H.aw-afi --- for a week. I heard from Helen Schreiter - remember she stayed with me at Sim- pson -Sears? Helen is at Vancouver flow, staying at the moment in Arizona and then is going back to Canada. I have a variety of new paintings I have tackled this winter really en- joyed them - but Florida skies and water are so different from ours, it is a challenge. I had a card from Addie McPhee and Rob Tetu, potters of Seaforth. They are with an interesting shop opened on Main Street in Exeter on April 10 - the "All Thumbs" - featuring potters, weavers, photog and woodworking, stained glass making, fibre sculpture, print making, toys and wood turning. First thing we know it will be ART MART. Get busy. Love, Martha. Write a letter to the editor
