Edna Staebler, author of four cookbooks, visited
the Goderich Public Library last Tuesday
evening, April' 22, to talk about her books and
career. It was the first time that the library had
a visiting author and the evening proved to be a
success, as her audience packed the basement of
the library to hear about "More Food That
Really Schmecks." (photo by Cath Wooden) --

BY THE REVEREND
A.F. LOEBACH
"Simon, son of John do
you love me more than
these?" Jesus' question
was directed at Peter, the
man who just a short
while before had denied
that he even knew Jesus.
Peter's answer was
quick and to the point,
"Yes, Lord, . you know I
love you." Twice more
the same question; and
each answer was more
vehement: "Lord, you
know everything, you
know I love you!"
That same question
Jesus asks each one of us,
not once but many times
during our lives. He'
asked it- of us when we
were first old enough to
-know._. Him- and -make --a
choice, even though we
had already been com-
mitted to Him by our
loving parents when they
had us baptised.
Jesus was not content
to let someone else speak
for us once we could
speak for ourselves. He
needed a personal
commitment from each
one of us. And so, as we
began to think for our-
selves and make our
decisions, He asked us,
"Do you love me more
than these?"
If we had been brought
up in a family where
there was real faith in
Jesus, then it was the

God. Mother Teresa of
Calcutta is . an out-
most natural thing to say,
"Yes, Lord, I do love
you".
And so we grew up,
advancing in wisdom and
age as Jesus did. How
frequently Jesus called to
us when He revealed
Himself to us though the
many "teachers" He sent
-to_-us:_.our_parents _first of-__
all, our good friends, our
teachers in school, and
especially our Church!
Through all these
"agents" of His, He
revealed to us little by
little that wonderful
Person who had lived
among us long ago for no
other reason than that He
might reveal to us, in a
way we humans could
understand, something of
the love and goodness of
God Himself.
Jesus asks this same
question, "Do you love
me more than these?" of
• our high school students
when He asks them to
choose Him and His Way
of life in preference to
drugs, sexand alcohol.
He puts thequestion to
the ambitious young man
or woman who is tempted
to try to get ahead in life
by unfairand evil means.
He asks it of married
persons when they are
drawn by the promise'of
forbidden pleasure to be
-unfaithfuLto_the -spouse to
whom they have com-
mitted themselves "until
death do us part".
Finally Jesus puts this
same question in the form
of a challenge to the
person of faith, as He did
•to the rich young man in
the Gospel, whom He
wishes to become His
follower in a total com-
mitment to a life of
service of God and His
Church, "If you will be
my disciple, go, sell what
you havd and give it to the
poor' and come, follow
Me".

the Huron -Perth
Presbytery last week on a
conference on moral
issues, of,nuclear power,
said that of ' primary
concern was the urgent
need for public and

minimize the un-

The report recognized
the importance of nuclear
power as part of the in-

Ontario, in a period of
transition to a more
favourable energy
program.
It also supported
Canada's application of
nuclear safeguard
policies and Canada's
role in furthering in-

Jesus asks us this

including life itself, He
asks -us -once-,more,---"Do

make our answer spring
to our lips and straight
from our heart, "Yes,
