(photo by Cath Wooden) .Actresses were superb... 'frompage2A • inexperiencedper- formers. In his first appearance on the GLT stage, Dr. Ken Lambert as Helen's father earned' much respect. Though he forgot some lines. on opening. night, he gave the part so much honesty and charm that, the little lapse of memory was hardly noticed by the audience. Anna Melski as •Mrs. Keller was also good. She showed a mother's compassion in her eyes and. in^ her facial ex- pression' which added greatly to the per- formance. Young Mike Donnelly as James and' Kathy Jenkins as Aunt Ev. provided just the right amount of comic relief. Donnelly was well cast as son and Kathy Jenkins was just perfect as the southern lady who would • rather ignore life than experience it. Others in the cast in- clude Paul Howe, Jen- nifer Peters, Susan M Murphy, Deb Ried, Del Almeida, Cindy Sully, Sandy Lane, Shirley Hall, Julie Meyers, Tom Donnelly, Pat Donnelly, Anne Coulter and Maureen Penn. Stage designer Mike Scott did a fine job of laying out the com- plicated set. The cast moved easily from the diningroom to the out- doors to the bedroom to the cottage -it without oorrfusing thea-di-erree-. Lighting for the play was tricky and on a couple of occasions on opening night, the cast, was mistakenly left in darkness. But the flaws II yr,'e NEW IN TOWN and don t which ,nra, to t c / the r- 've/O Ile DIL, hostess at 5249676 You'll be glad you drd were only minor and in general, the lighting effects helped the audience make the switch naturally and pleasantly from one location to another. Jim Mulhern was in charge of lighting, assisted by Jim Keller. Margaret McMillan in charge of wardrobe dressed the cast for the 19th century play, and audience's will be im- pressed by the beauty of the cloth,es. -scene on stage, especially those worn by Maguire and Melski. Sound effects by Leslie Hogan and Kirk Hogan were perhaps the weakest link in the 'performance openiing night. However, there was one report that some equipment had failed to arrive in ,.time for Thursday evening's show and sound effects were hastitfy improvised. One should not write a review of this play without commenting on the director. Philip',... J.McMillan, a teacher at GDCI, knew his cast and brought •out the. bestin them. There's no doubt the direction of Philip McMillan willbe an important asset to GLT as it moves into the future.. Apartments proposed 1NCARI Y 1TE - Two four -storey apartment buildings could be built near Sutton Park if the town's planning board and the council accepts a rezoning request from a Kitchener firm. Monmar Development Limited wants to build two 40 foot buildings with 112 rental units of one and • two^ h7droam apart- ments. The new proposal discounts a 1976 plan to build a six -storey project there. Harry Poch, who is representing the developer, explained that the original townhouses planned for that land "are not marketable at this time." Apartments in Kincardine have a no vacancy rate and the rental for apartments would be Tess than for the townhouses, he said. Mr. Poch also pointed out that the developer is looking to a transient population to house the new project.
