STAR, WEDlig.SPAY, APRA," 080 Colborne Township council Receives several applications At the April 15 meeting of Colborne Township Council, it was agreed that Leonard Fisher's request for the purchase of equipment for the Colborne Township Ball Team—copld,Lhe obtained from the Township Recreation Budget. Twelve applications for the position of Township road superintendent were received. After con- siderable discussion regarding each ap- plication it was decided to hold a special council meeting to choose. John Kuran of Goderich was council's choice. Keith Kerr, acting road superintendent informed Council Phone Company would be removing the telephone poles on the Boundary road and that the road department would be filling in the holes. The culvert on the Frank Baer road was discussed and it was decided to widen the culvert shoulder up the approaches. Other items discussed were the ordering of culverts giying Kerr approval to do so; the road and culvert to the Sager Subdivision; Steve Buchanan's laneway; repair of soft spots on the road' to 'George Wraith's corner; removal of snow fence at Norma Hazlitt's; and notice of Ministry of Transportation and - Communication approval of the transfer and work on the Homan -Township road. Bob Fellner and his consultant agent ap- proached Council about the access township road to the Development. Several proposals were made with no agreement reached. Three building permits were issued. Hudson Milburn reported on warble fly spraying, a dog to be buried and a dangerous open well. . • A letter- from Bell Canada about listing municipal phone num- bers in blue pages was approved. A letter from the Huron County Planning Department about Huron Haven's changes in ex- pansion plans was read to Council as well as a letter from the Fire Marshal's office to the Benmiller Inn re: a fire alarm s tem • At the special council meeting April 29 the 1980 Colborne Township Budget was approved as presented by the Township accountant Ben Straughan with taxes due June 19'd'nd November 20, 1980 and tax arrears interest rate at ,11/4 per cent per month. • Colborne Township livestock valuators, Clifford McNeil and Donald Sowerby reported to Council about the Livestock •Valuator's Seminar held in Toronto • which they attended. They gave an excellent report and stated that they felt that the seminar .would help them as livestock valuators. Council was informed that if Bell Canada phone cable was 'cut by an hourly contractor; the owner of the property was responsible, if with a written contract, the contractor was responsible for damages and a Bell serviceman PROCLAMATION RESPECT FOR LIFE WEEK MAY 4-11 Whereas: The Province of Ontario has designated May as "Family Unity Month" Whereas: The family is the foundation of our corn. munity and society Whereas: The Goderich and District Pro Life Group focus on the family and their needs, educating the com- munity on respect for life of the unborn child, the han- dicapped, the aged and related areas that affect the family Therefore: Be It resolved that the Town of Goderich proclaim the week of May 4 to May 11 as 'Respect for Life Week" in co-oPeratIon with the Ontario Gover- nment's "Family Unity Month". A •donation to the MacKay Hall Senior Citizen project was discussed and Deputy - Reeve Jewell was ap- pointed to obtain more information. Some discussion took place about a Goderich- Colborne Housing needs study. Council approved - the transfer of the Homan road property. An offer to purchase tice -Lancaster bomber site was discussed and ordered filed. A By -Law to. raise $150,000.00 to aid in the construction of tile drainage work was ap- proved. Playhouse gets Wintario boost Huron Country Playhouse has expanded their r I. • endeavours for 1980 with the additional incentive provided by the Wintario Arts Challenge Fund. The fund was established to encourage major, non-profit arts organizations, such as Huron Country Playhouse, to achieve greater long ' term financial stability. To be eligibleyou must be an Ontario -based arts organization with an annual operating budget in excess of 1150700. Wintario will match 0.00 for every $1.00 from- the corporate -private sector raised-cFver and above the yearly fund-raising target established by the •organization. The Grade 3 students of Sharon Brown at Robertson Memorial Public School got a first hand look at pioneer life in Canada during their Pioneer Day, Tuesday. Scott Baechier and Pam Scheerer were dressed for the part as they simulated the atmosphere of life in the one -room schoolhouse. The students also made butter and Johnny cake as part of the learning experience.
