re -apply
Some 31,000 old age
pensioners in Ontario are
'going to find their pension
cheques considerably
smaller this month
simply because they
failed to re -apply for the
federal government's
Guaranteed Income
Supplement by the March
31 deadline.
According to' officials
from Health and Welfare
Canada's Income
Security Program, those
who failed to re -apply will
receive only the basic Old
Age Security payment of
"$186.80.
The maximum
Guaranteed . Income
Supplement _rate _fer,...-a,.
single person is $153.35,
and $127.51 each for
married pensioners. The
supplement is in addition
" to the basic pension.
"We have done just
about everything possible
in an effort to alert those
who failed to re -apply,"
said W. A. Wright,
Assistant Director
General of the program.
"We sent out two
separate reminders. In
addition, we undertook
extensive media
promotion in an all-out
effort to reach all these
people," he said.
There will be one final
effort to reach those who
failed to re -apply. The
Department will send out
more application forms
to them, about April 28.
"The ' people who
receive these ap-
plications must fill them
out and return them
immediately, even if they
had sent one in
previously," Mr. Wright
said.
Pensioners who return
the applicationswill be
reinstated and get
retroactive pay. Those
who do not will be
removed from the rolls,
Mr. Wright stressed.
The last and final
mailing will contain an
application form, a guide
for completing the form
and return envelope.

Document. outlines use lands
The Maitland Valley
Conservation Authority
in co-operation with the
Ausable-Bayfield Con-
servation Authority and
the Wingham District of
the Ministry of Natural
Resources has ,recently
released a document
I dealing with the use of
their public lands by
school groups, clubs and
interest groups.
The policy document,
Lands for Learning,
outlines all of the local
properties. which at''e
,available for use. It.
contains instructions on
how to book those
;properties, how to set up
activities for when you
are there; the facilities
and resources which are
available, as well as the
rules and regulations for
the use of such areas. The
document should answer
all of the question—fthat a
group leader might have
about the Useof public
properties.
The newly released
Lands . for Learning
policy document
represents the second
revision of the first draft
released in 1973. I'ts
purpose is to encourage
and co-ordinate the use of
public lands by schools,
clubs and.interest groups.
The new draft is greatly
condensed into a very
easy-to-use format.
In total more than 60
properties are outlined in
the document, all of
which are located in the
area bounded roughly by
Mildmay and Lucknow in
the .north, Lake Huron in
the west, Harriston and
Stratford in the east and
Arkona in the south.
Clubs or interest
groups interested in..
learning more about the
policy, or obtaining a
copy areasked to contact
,.the appropriate agency.

is not fair that only one

suggested that Ted

possible and Geoffrey
said he would consider it.
Vere felt that it was too
difficult for one trustee to
have to try to cover the
number of sessions
possible at the con-
vention.
