tan lid turns'
out to tombstone
BRUSSELS - Jeanne
Ireland of Brussels has
discovered that she has a
rather unique lid for her,
septic tank.
'*hen plumber Dale
Machan carne to check
out a problem with the
tank, he came across
three tombstones being
used for the covering.
The tombstones have
been the cause of some
speculation in the village
and are quite old, one
dates 1875 and the other
1890.. A third tombstone
was blank.
Where the grave

how they got to be on Mrs.

May use
solar heat
to warm pool
KINCARDINE - The
recreation board in
Kincardine is looking into
the feasiblity of using
solar heat to, warm the
community pool.
Presently, the, cost to'
heat the pool for a season
is $20,000 and the cost to
install a solar heating
system in the roof of the
community centre over
the pool would be $48,000.
Bill Orr of Solar Swim
explained to the re'c
committee, "If you take
the mortgage rate of 13
per cent over live years,
without fuel costs going
up any more than they
are now, your monthly
payments would be
$1,129.01. Over the five
years, it would be totally
paid. for in savings:"
The pool outside
V. iarton has a Solar Swim
system and according, to
Mr. Orr, they are totally
satisfied with the work
that has been done. Pools
in Richmond Hill and
Scarboro ' are also using
solar energy , to, heat in-
door pools. The town of
Chesley is also interested
in the concept of solar
heating its pool.
quite a mystery. Alf
Knight., chairman of the
Cranbrook . Cemetery
Board checked records of
the.1875 tombstonebut no
information was found.
There is •a possibility
that the other two torn-
bstones could have come
out of an old Methodist
cemetery. As well, Mrs...
Ireland was told that
there was once a church
on the lot adjoining her
property, which she also
owls.

Pottery 'dig', which he
hopes will be published as
a monograph this fall.
Digs at --the Huron
Pottery in :Egmondville
in 1974, 75 and 76 un-
covered a completely
different type of kiln. It
was round, ap-
proximately 15 feet in
diameter and had four
fire mouths to allow
balanced heat. Newlands
attributed the different
kilns to the Irish
background of Burns and
the German background
of Valentine Boehlor, who
founded.the Egmondville
Pottery in 1852.
Around 1910, the Huron
Pottery was demolished.
Many, pieces of pottery
and potter'.s_sools.....were
buried in, the cellar. The
excavation at Egmon-
dville netted a valuable
'find' in the pioneer's
tools as well as 80 boxes
of pottery pieces
representing 160 cubic
feet of pottery.

Ontario Heritage Act, all
finds are now . Crown
property and the Ministry
of Culture and Recreation

places for storage. The
Egmondville Pottery is
currently being kept at
Bruce County Museum in
Southampton. Newlands
suggested the museum
because it is the closest

A top replacement tire built with the same Du-
Pont 66 Nylon that gives aircraft tires their
tremendous strength. The high tensile strength
of the 66 Nylon permits thin, -tough sidewalls
that will dissipate destructive heat at highway
speeds for extra road safety. Continual moder-
nization has kept this super bias -ply tire current
with car design changes.
