From time " to time records with a religious flavorfind their way into the charts. In recent days there have been quite a few. - Hot .on the heels of Lena Martell's 'One day at a time' has come Boney M's 'I am born again'. Then Billy Preston teamed up with Syreeta to launch a new part- nership with the love Lieutenant Neil Watt Separate teachers to attend Workshops On Friday, May 2, the principals and teachers of the Huron -Perth County Roman Catholic Separate School Board will be holding a county- wide professional activity day at Elborn College, London. For these two stars the title has had special significance •'•-!becau e - their disc has been a great hit. Their fading careers have sprung to life once more — they have been 'born again' Ad are enjoying a fresh start. • . And, just for a change, instead of Christians complaining about the devil having all the best tunes, it seems that the pop world has `stolen' some of Christianity's best phrases. When Christians use them, they are sometimes accused of being old-fashioned— but Boney M and company obviously don't think in those terms. In any case, being born again is a perfect description of what happens to.a man when Jesus Christ becomes his Lord. To choose other.:,._, words would not really be adequate. And the Boney M record explains the meaning quite well. It begins : 'I am born again, I feel free.' What man or woman released from the guilt of their sins would Ydeny that? 'Free', is' exactly how a person feels when his sins are forgiven by Christ (the on -1 y .One w.iw.- an fo.rgive_, them). A great burden has gone. The second verse goes on to say: 'I am born again. .. There's a quite different me.' Right again! ' Nobody is ever the same after being born, Christ. After the joy of feeling free there comes direction, purpose, and power previously thought to be unobtainable. The born again person springs to life because Jesus Christ - God Himself - is at the centre of his life, helping, loving, saving. It's not surprising the song concludes: 'Since love touched my heart right My life has a meaning, I feel I'm no longer drifting in space; I believe once again that there is ' a tomorrow, A brand new tomorrow I know I can face,' Why is it that born again Christians want everybody else to be born 'again, too? It's because they have found life's best, and the song in their heart is for real. With Jesus we can all be born again. "Jesus said, 'Except a man be bbrn 'again, He cannot see the Kingdom of God'." Richards, a land resource scientist who has co- ordinated the course for the last two years. In addition to becoming better informed about the rapidly changing rural scene, these leaders have an opportunity to discuss the moral and ethical implications of many issues such as resource use in food supply. They also acquire specific information regarding new agricultural developments which can then be discussed with consumers and farmers in their area. Leaders from urban churches are also en- couraged to attend since, Professor Richards nntpe the general con- sumer should bebetter informed about what is involved in the food production system. In addition to lectures by .specialists in agriculture, horticulture and nutrition, invited speakers form an in- tegral part of the program. Reverend- - Peter McKellar of the United Church of Canada will speak on "How the't Church is Reacting to Changes in the 'Coun- tryside." Paulo Friere of the World Council of Chur- ches, Geneva, will spend an informal evening with the group. A panel presentation and group forum will conclude the one-week non -degree. course which is co- sponsored by the University of Guelph and Toronto School of Theology.
