Every time there is a brutal murder, capital punishment is the main topic on everyone's lips. But all this talk has not accomplished anything. The time for words has past - We Need Action Now! The tragedy of murder capnot be described or understood until; it touches your family. When a member of your family is in- discriminately and brutally murdered, a bond is broken, the bond of love in a complete family. I have agonizingly watched the pain and misery inflicted on the family and friends of my brother-in-law, Constable Duncan Thomas McAleese, who was brutally murdered in Delhi on January 23, 1980. People say that as a policeman my brother-in- law knew the risk he took. Granted that may have been true but this does not change the fact that every Murder is a sen- seless waste of human life. Policemen are not the only people who are --brutal]]y--nrurdered-ee ry-- year. - When will we do something to stop the. unjust slaughter of in- nocent people? If we, the people, do not do something to change the system, how can we expect to recruit or keep policemen .on the job? Since January 1, 1978, nine police officers have lost their lives in the line of duty - four in Ontario Would subscribe alone. We must help our police so that they can do their job - to serve and prqtect us. What is justice - the rendering of what is due_ or merited.. At present, the punishment for first degree murder is 25 years' imprisonment. Is this justice? .A person who has committed murder will eventually return tp ,his family and possibly 'murder again. But what of the victim and their family? 'They can never be together again. Is this justice? Punishment and justice are not necessarily identical. Twenty-five years imprisonment is punishment but is most certainly not justice, and contradicts the ancient and long lasting belief of the majority of Canadians, that the only Dear Editor: My husband and I were in the Goderich area on Saturday, April 18 and I picked up a copy of the Signal -Star which I found quite refreshing, We are summer residents at Huron Sands where we have a. summer cottage and also read your paper then. Minaker Crocodile tears Dear Editor: ' - Your 'headline' of April 2 and the crocodile tears being shed for, Jehovah's Witnesses in the April 16 issue, brings to mind that at Isaiah 43:10 (in ,the Bible copyrighted in 1901 by Nelson Publishing Co.; and by the Inter- national Council. of religious education — to insure the purity of the. text in 1929), is the declaration: "Ye are my witnesses, saith Jehovah and I am God." read : "The God of Abraham; and of Isaac, and of Jacob, the God of ,our fathers,, hath glorified his.Servant Jesus,...14But ye ' denied the Holy and Righteous One, and asked "for ' a murderer to be granted unto you, 15 and 'killed the Prince of Life, whom God raised from the dead, whereof we are witnesses.' Peter, the man who said this, was 'classed as "unlear, ned ' and ignorant" by the That same God, at "learned" men of his day Isaiah 1:18 invites: (Acts 5:6,13) thus making "Come 'now, and let us. ,peter one of •Jehovah's -reason-together."-_._____-----witnesses!_.. ,...._.- Exodus, chapter 6 -and verse 3 identifies God as "Jehovah" ' who "ap- peared unto Abraham, unto Isaac and unto Jacob." At Acts 3:13-15 we can Webster defines "immortality" as "not subject to death". The apostle Paul describes "the only God" as being "immortal".
