Over $5,000 was, raised by 146 riders. in
Goderich's third' annual bike ride for cancer on
Sunday.. Both the money raised and the number
of riders more than doubled of= last year
when 5$ riders peddled their way to $2,400 for
the Goderich Branch of the Canadian Cancer
Society.
Betty Bowers won the prize for the woman
with the most pledges. She has over $400 to
collect. Mayor Harry. Worseil won the prize for
the man with the most pledges. He has over
$300 to collect. All pledges are to be handed into
the Bank of Montreal within the next two
weeks. Other prizes donated by local mer-
chants were given out by way of lucky draws.
Dave Harrison may not have had the most pledges in
Goderich's third annual . bike ride for cancer but he
certainly had the oldest, biggest and most unusual
bike at the event. One hundred and forty-six riders
raised over $5,000 for the Goderich Branch -of the
Canadian Cancer Society at the bike -a -thou Sunday.

Study wants people
from 1920's harvest
A University of Guelph study' being done by
Gordon Hak. " of the History Department
desperately needs to locate people who went on. a
harvest excursion from the Huron County area
during the 1920s.
Each fall during the 1920s an'average of 15,000
Ontarions went West to help bring in the Prairie
wheat crop and many came from the Huron
County area. ' However; little is known about this
important part of Canadian history.
"Because of the lack of written records," said'
Hak, "the only way to recoverthis part of our
history is by talking to the people who actually
went west on the excursions..
Hak hopes to chat with at least 50former'ex-
cursionists from thi's area during the summer.
If you went on a harvest excursion in the 1920s
and are willing to share your knowledge please
write to Gordon, Hak, Department of History,
University of Guelph, or phone (519) 824-4120,
extension 3887.

amounts to 960 million
hours per year or at least
