An addition to the.
-Vanastra Recreation
Centre. is presently. being
COnstructed to make the
building accessible to
physically handicapped
persons and. more ac-
commodating to the
general public.
The Municipality of the
Township of Tuckersmith
has 'formed the
Tuckersmith Disabled
Fund -Raising Committee
to provide equal op-
portunities for all. This
committee asks that you
con s id eL -rnaking a -
donation to this wor-
thwhile building project.
At present the
recreation centre con-
sists of the only indoor
swimming pool in Huron
County, a health spa
containing some
mechanical exercise
aids, a sauna, change
rooms, and an
auditorium. As past
registrations have in-
dicated, the participants
using the facilities come
from all over Huron
County.
The new facilities are
to include accessible
washrooms, showers,
change areas, hydraulic
pool lift, an exercise
room with specialized
eiteiti§e
an activity room. These
facilities will be used by
both the handicapped and
the general public.
The building project is
to be financed by
$188,825.25 in provincial
grarirs i,„.$62,820.50 in
public subscriptions; and
$31,410.25 in Wintario
grants for a total of
$283,056.
All donations from the
public will be issued a
receipt for income tax
purposes. •For more in-

was the winner of a multi-
colored afghan when the
Beta Theta Chapter of the
Beta Sigma Phi Sorority
held a draw at its meeting
on Tuesday evening,
Apr41_15. The draw fnr the
afghan was a project of
the Chapter's Ways and
Means committee.

An Open House will be
held at the Group Home
for the mentally han-
ditapped on Friday, May
2 at 8 p.m. The Group
Horne is located at 200
Keays Street in Goderich.
The idea behind the
Open House is to acquaint
the general public with
the home and the people
who live and work there.
The home presently has
eight residents and a full
and part-time staff of
eight.
At the Open House a
short film presentation
will be given on mentally
handicapped persons
moving from institutions
into the community.
Refreshments will also be
served. Everyone is
welcome. For further

Help kick off National
Mental Retardation Week
(May 11 to 17) early by
taking an interest in the
Group Home.
