Members of the GDCI intermediate and concert band and choir
were involved in a nine -hour play-a-thon at the school Friday to
raise money for a band exchange program with a Bay City high
school concert band. The students were allowed five-minute
breaks every half hour and raised money through hourly pledges.
The GDCI band will be in Bay City May 1,2 and 3 while the Bay
City band will•be in Goderich, May 14,15 and 16: (photos by Dave

Western High to exchange music
For the first time in its
history, the GDCI concert
band will play. outside of
Canada.
•
The GDCI concert band
will be involved in an
exchange program with
Bay City Western High
School in May and both
will provide a free public
concert,
Last Friday the GDCI
ban -ds and 'choir held a
nine -hour play-a-thon at
the school to raise the'
necessary fund's- f ii he
trip to Bay City. The
students played and sang
from 3.p:m. to midnight'
Friday, taking only five-
-
minute breaks every half
hour,
The .GDCI contingent,
will travel to Auburn,
outside of Bay City, on'
May 1,2. and 3, their first
trip outside the country.
They will perform at a
senior high school in the
morning and . entertain
junior Students in the
afternoon. In the evening
they will perform at a
public concert. ' . •
Besides d. 'lthe in-
termediate band, concert
band and .choir, Warren
.Robinson and a group of
students will • perform
Robinson's award-
winning play,.Them:
The 150 piece Bay City
Western band will make
the return trip to
Goderich, May 14, 15 and
-16. On Friday, May,, 15
they will play at GDCI in.
the mbrning and in
Clinton in the afternoon.
• On Friday evening there
will bea free public
concert.
Member experiences flight
Recently a member of
5321lMaitland) Squadron,
Royal Canadian Air
Cadets, Flight Sergeant
Kevin ,.Bosworth was
selected to participate in
a familiarization flight on
a Canadian Forces C-130
'Hercules' , transport of
436 Squadron.
•
Kevin took off from
Trenton and was flown to
Chatham, New Brun-
swick on a 3112 hour flight,
passing over Lake
Placid, NA.,ew York and the
famous Perce Rock oil'
Quebec's Gaspe penin-
sula.
After a short. stopover
the "here" was airborne
and flying over the vast
barren lands of
Labrador. 'Kevin sat in
the pilot's seat on this leg
of his trip. At Goose Bay,
the vast airfield con-
structed 'during World
War 2 for the war planes
ferry service across the
Atlantic,. Kevin was
thrilled to see an Avro

bomber of the Royal Air
Force, doing some very
spectacular low-level
simulated bombing runs.
Then aboard again
bound for Chatham, N.B.
On this trip the navigator
asked Kevin where he
lived and then showed
him how the Distant
Measuring Equipment
worked.. In less than a
second the computor
showed the distance from
the, aircraft's ,present
location to Goderich and
'the flying time to get
there.
Then thereturn flight
back to Trenton and a
night landing. A very
enjoyable trip.
Cadets -of the Squadron
are eligible for such
flights once they reach
Senior Cadet level.
Kevin is now looking
forward to the Para
Rescue Course he is
shortly to take at Camp
Ipperwash. He will be
making jumps .from
aircraft to qualify him for
the coveted parachutist
wings.
Any boy or girl of 13
years of age is elegible to
join the Squadron. The
meetings are every
Tuesday at 'Robertson
Memorial School com-
mencing at 7:30 p.m.
