Strickland with the Regent, Mrs. H. Murphy presiding. Mrs. A. Garland reported that $3,300 has been raised by the can- vassers in the Red Cross Campaign to date. The April 1919 minutes were read by Mrs. T. Stringer. As only five members were present, this meeting was a particular ly short and uneventful meeting. Members are asked to make note of the up- coming "Garage Sale" which is scheduled for May 31. Guest speaker, Stewart Thompson spoke to the Nile News Congratulations to. Mr. and Mrs. Ron Brindley f nee' Michelle Buchanan) who, were married on Friday evening. Sympathy of the community is extended to Mrs. Howard Sproul and family in the sudden passing of her sister. Barbara, Betties read a poem and Molly Cox, accompanied at the piano by Verna Lobb, sang a special hymn. Isobel Sturdy in- troduced Mrs. Talbot and Mrs, Snyder of Bayfield, who showed excellent slides of Rgypt,..the Holy Land and Greece. Tbe. commentary was very interesting and showed where. Jesus and his friends lived and travelled. Mrs. Stoner presented Mrs. Talbot with a gift on behalf of the UCW. Isobel Harris gave a reading. • The worship service in Holmesville United Church was well attended last Sunday. Mr. Oestreicher talked to the children about another apostle until they know the names of the 12 apostles. The Sunday after Easter, the minister spoke about The Darkness Is Passing Away. Elmer Potter and Irvine Tebbutt received the offering. Notes Alvin Betties is now convinced that 13 is a lucky number because Barb _and__Alvin were playing crib and Barb dealt the 29 hand. This is the first in 36 years. His hand consisted of Jack of clubs, five of spades, five of diamonds, five of hearts, the five of clubs turned up in the cut. Terry and Gerry can vouch that this is correct. Congratulations Alvin. Goderich Township WI held a card party in the Holmesville School on April 10 with nine tables playing. Winners. were: ladies' high,' Cecelia Edgar; ladies' low, Margaret Fremlin; men's high, Bruce McClinchey; men's low, Don Harris; Ione hands, Ed Deeves. The WI would like to thank everyone who participated in their card parties this past winter. Hope we will see you all again next year. Have a good summer everyone. Mrs. A. J. WI meets The Goderich Township Women's Institute met in. the Holmesville Church on April 14 at 2 p.m. with over 50 ladies present and Hazel McCreath, president, in charge of the meeting. Molly Cox favored the ladies by singing two numbers. Mrs. Jean Lobb in- troduced the guest speaker, David Newlands, who spoke on various kinds of potteries in Ontario and back in the 1800's. He spoke on other diggings in the area and showed his slides. The bike-a-thon for Cancer is a great way to get some fresh air and exercise While at the same time raising money fora good cause, Cancer research. This year's bike-a-thon will com- mence at 2 p.m. on Sunday, April 20 from the Suncoast Mall parking lot. Registration will take place at the Mall from noon until 1:30 p.m. If it Miss Laura Bedford from West Hill, Toronto visited with Miss Brenda Brindley on the weekend and'attended the wedding of Ron and Michelle Brindley. Mr. and Mrs. Cline Stephenson, Karen and Mary from Niagara visited with Mr. and Mrs. Leonard Brindley and family on the weekend. They also attended the wedding and reception for Ron and Michelle Brindley. Roller skating season opens today (April 16) at the Memorial Com- munity Centre with a beginners' skate from 6-8 p.m. Admission is 50 cents and skate rentals are 25 cents. From 8-10:30 p.m. the more experienced roller skaters can enjoy p skate without worrying about running any novices over. The regular fees are admission, $1 and skate rental 50 cents.
