Church service at Nile
was well attended on
Sunday, April 13 as it was
Baptism and Con-
firmation Sunday.
Reverend Cecil L.
Whittich of Blyth opened
the service with the
"Prayer of Approach".
Mrs. Ann Feagan sang a
solo in a special tribute to
children and their
parents.
Baptism hymn was
sung while the parents
brought their children to
the front. They included
Holly Ellen Park,
daughter of Stephen Park
and Den (Stothers)
Park and Owen Robert
Rourke, son . of Robert-
Rourke
obertRourke and Michelle
(Austin) Rourke.
Children's story was
then told about "The
children coming to
Christ" and prayer was
said. The children then
retired to Sunday School
classes.
The offering was
received by Gary
'Johnston, Gregory
Feagan, Larry' Pollock
arLd Glen McNeil.
Rev. Whittich's
message was a follow-up
on the Easter Sunday
message - how most of
the disciples believed in
God, but one didn't.
Thomas said he had to
see that God was risen
and alive for himself.
Confirmation was
conducted by Rev.

Sunday following' the baptis-
mal of their granddaughter,
Holly Ellen, at the Nile
United Church.
Congratulations to, Mr.
and Mrs. Roy' Ashton of
Goderich who celebrated
their 40th wedding anniver-
sary on Friday evening by
way of an open dance at
Dungannon hall., People
were in attendance from Port
Elgin, St. Catharines, Lon-
don, Stratford, and Bruce -
field, as well as the sur-
rounding area. Mr. and Mrs.
Ashton have a family of three
daughters, Marie, Mrs. Bill
Park; Gail, Mrs: Elmer Cook,
both of Dungannon_ and Mat-
iryn, Mrs Raben Schultz of
Huron Haven village, Goder-
ich, as well as 10 grand-
children and one great
granddaughter.
Murray Popp, son of the
late Mr. and Mrs. Otto Popp,
former residents of the vil-
lage, is a patient in Goderich
hospital suffering from a
mild heart attack.

UNITED CHURCH
Rev. Cecil Wittich of Blyth
conducted a beautiful and
impressive service during
which those wishing to join
the church were confirmed
and the sacraments of bap-
tism and communion were
observed. Those being con-
firmed by faith were Valerie
Denise Maize, Mrs. Maxine
Eleanor Maize, and Kenneth
John Meriam. Carrie Lynne
Meriam, daughter of Ken-
neth Meriam and Sandra
Dickson, was baptized.

men served the wine.
On Easter Sunday,
Mrs. Yvonne Kerr, Mrs.

ing Contest in Palmerston on
Wednesday, April 9 were: '
Girls Class: Mary Luanne
Clare, daughter of Mr. and

Lucknow, sponsored by the
Wingham Lions Club. Run-
ner-up,was Angie Sapalous-
ki,.sponsored by the Orange-
ville Lions Club. In the Boy's
class, the winner was Kevin
Short, sponsored by the Or-
angeville Lions Club and
runner-up was Murray Gil-
christ, sponsored by the
Lucknow Lions Club. There „
was also a French speaking
contest. The final competi-
tion of the Lions Internation-
al Multiple District A spon-
sored by the Lions Clubs of
Ontario, Quebec and Labrad-
or (Newfoundland) takes
place on the weekend. of May
2nd and 3rd.

MacDonald of Chilliwack,
B.C., who has been taking a
five month course in King-
ston. Jim, who is married to

audience with stories of his
interesting career. Jim ex=
pects to be transfered to
Calgary this summer.
Ray Dalton is presently
•visiting with his daughter,
Kathy MacDonald and girls
in Chilliwack, B.C.. after
spending the winter with -his
son, . Dan, daughter-in-law
Marilyn and grandchildren in
Tucson, Arizona, and vaca-
tioning in Mexico and Las
Vegas. A new daughter was
born to Dan and Marilyn in
February. Our congratula-
tions to them.
Mrs. Jack Van Osch, Luck -
now, who has been a patient
in the Wingham and District
Hospital for the past three
weeks returbed'fo—het "home
on Sunday.
Mr. and Mrs. Antone Van
Osch and family spent the
weekend in Essex with Mr.
and Mrs. Albert Heffernan
and family. On their return
home on Sunday, they visited
with Mr. and Mrs. John
Sheardown and family of St.
Thomas.

attended an Amway Demon-
stration at the home, of Ruth
Bechard, Point Clark, ..on
Wednesday evening.
Leona Hogan and her
friend, Debbie Miatto, left

International Airport.

on Sunday after spending
two weeks visiting his aunt,
Mrs. Marie Judge and cous-
ins in Jackson, Michigan.
Carl and Fran Riegling and
Frank and Sally Ritchie re-
ceived 'word that Frank Rieg-
ling of Whitelaw, Alberta
was able to return to his
home from Peace River Hos-.
pital over the weekend, A
walking cast was applied 'to
his foot and Frank will be
home for six weeks with
Anna and the children. Their
youngest son, Mark, spent a
few days in Fairview Hospit-
al for a ,tonsillectomy and
returned home Friday.

The May meeting is to
be held at the church
instead of Mrs. Phyllis
Scott's home. ,
Mrs. Girvin closed the
meeting with • the
benediction and then
there was a small auction
sale of baked goods,
pickles, onions and jam.
