Accidents still claim
the lives of more than
1,200 Canadian children
every year and cause
many thousands of
serious and crippling
injuries. Although
fatalities have been
slowly declining, there
remains much to be done
if this serious situation is
to be significantly im-
,,
d
proved and the lives and
well-being of children
protected.
The Canada Safety
Council sponsors Child
Safety Week each year
from May 1 to 7 to
awaken the Canadian
public to the need for
active participation in
child safety.
Child Safety must
become a major com-
mitment of parents,
teachers and leisure time habits that can last a
supervisors everywhere lifetime is during the
in Canada. Through learning years :Of
edueation and super-
vision, we can help
prevent child accidents,
deaths and injuries.
Youngsters must be
made aware of potential
hazards in the en-
vironment, -whether at
home, at school or at
play. The ideal time for
the development of safety
