Chief of Police Bur -
cher, of Seaforth, was in
town- on Wednesday,
having brought a tramp
to the county jail to put in
two months hard labour,
a sentence imposed by
Police Magistrate
Beattie. The, tramp has
been in the county jail
before, and although a.
pretty intelligent man,'
seems to prefer ja'il'life to
hard work.
Mrs. McLaughlin is the
fist property owner on
Colborne Street to
remove the front fence
from her property. The
removal improves the
street very much.
The first mail from
Toronto to reach
Goderich on Monday did
not arrive here till after'
the post office closed, the
delay being caused by
' cars running off the
track.
Two women, one
teaching the other how to
drive, • were taken to
Alexandra 'Marine and
General Hospital on
Monday when their car
hit a tree on Bennett
Street. Police said the car
was driven by Mrs. Harry
Chishom, .of South Bay
Mouth. Her sister,• Mrs.
John Marwick of
Goderich was the only
passenger.
Goderich Sailors

A member of the

since its beginning in
1954, Constable- -Albert
South has been promoted
to the rank of Patrol
Sergeant. Recom-
mendation for the
promotion was made in
town council's police
committee report at the
council meeting last
Friday night.
Bert Alexander, of
Suncoast Estates, has
changed designs for the
subdivision since it's
examination in earlier
stages and its final
passage by council last
month.
In to letter to clerk
Larry McCabe, Dave
Gower requested that the
council "rescind by-law
No. 29 of 1980, until fur-
ther investigation is
completed." Gower
stated four major points
of difference in the
subdivision plans,
namely: the road pattern
and subdivision layout,
the set back along the
bluff, the increased
number of lots, and
deficiency and change in
parkland location.
Elsa " Haydon also
questioned the park areas
in a letter to the planning
board. She feels that

This Friday, April 11,
the music students. at"
G.D.C.I. will be holding
their first annual "band-
a-thon" in order to raise
money Tor their up-
„ coming Bay City
Exchange trip.
The students have been
collecting pledges for
each half-hour of playing
that they hope to ac-
complish in the nine -hour
marathon. They will start
at 3 p.m. and hope to
continue in half-hour
segments; untilmidnight.
Students will be per-
forming in various
groups situated about the
school, playing"' music
both as soloists and in the
different band groups
that the Music Depart-
ment has organized.
One special attraction
being offered to the
public is a "pay to be a
conductor"' feature. If
you have ever had, a
secret ambition to con-
duct a big band, here is
your big chance! For $1
you can wield the baton
while the concert band
plays a number under
your direction.
Parents and interested
spectators are invited to
come into the school on

the music and support the
students' fund-raising
