F. Barney's neetter in
tbe'Letters to t,#e Editor
(Thursday, March 13,
1980 titled "Let'snot
force issue says Barney".
It, does not sound very
strange to me that Mr.
Barney .should abandon
the "ship so to speak, and
discontinue writing on the
issue of the Deity °of our
Lord Jesus Christ. He is
typical of all the
, Jehovah's Witnesses who
when scripturally proven
to be wrong, will back off,
as they prefer to debate
biblical issues with
people who are biblicly
illiterate, and therefore
are an easy prey to this
cult.
Among other things,
Mr. Barney states that
quote:.... .rnen...-will ....know -
that" thou whose name
alone is Jehovah art the
most high over all the
earth". (Psalms 83:18).
Whatever makes
Jehovah's Witnesses•
think that they , are the
only ones who proclaim
this great truth men-
tioned in the Psalms?
True Christians . who
study the Bible (and
Bible only) acknowledge
that Jehovah is God, but
also that Jesus is Jehovah
and so is the Holy Spirit. •
A scripture that the
Jehovah's Witnesses
have twisted like a
pretzel in their New
World Translation is John
1:1. They have made it to
read in full harmony with
their preconceived and
erroneous beliefs as "the
word was a god".
Jehovah's Witnesses
are hard pressed when
asked who the "scholars"
are who produced . the
New World Translation
as they have none! The
only known Hebrew and
Greek "scholars the
Watchtower Society has
is F. W. Franz and in a
trial in Scotland in 1954,
under oath, he testified
that he could neither read
or write or speak Hebrew
or Greek. How's that for
scholarship?
It's also very in-
teresting to note that
Greek scholars do not
agree with the rendering
of John 1:1 in the New
World, Translation.
(Watciftower Bible).
What do Greek scholars
really think of. the New
World Translation?
"..:the word was a god."?
Dr. J. R. Mantey, (who
is quoted on pages 1158-
1159 df the Witness own
'-"-:':i'in g"d'o in-•""-I o f erTi n e a r ---
Translation) : "A
shocking mistran-
slation."; "obsolete and
incorrect"; "It is neither
scholarly nor reasonable
to translate John 1:1
"The word was a god".
Dr. Bruce M. Metzger
of Princeton (Professor
of New Testament
Langupge• and
Literature): "A frightful
mistranslation.
"Erroneous" and
"PERNICIOUS":
"reprehensible"; "If the
Jehovah's Witnesses take
this translation seriously,
they are polytheists."
Dr. Charles L. Boyer of
Winona Lake, Indiana: "I

another girl, Donna Jane

react of any Greek scholar
wbo 'would agree to the
interpretation of this
verse insisted upon by the
Jehovah's Witnesses.. -I
have never encountered
one of them who had any
knowledge of the Greek
language."
Dr. J. Johnson of
California State
University, Long Beach:
"No justification
whatsoever for tran-
slating theous en ho logso
as "the word was a god".
There is no syntactical
parallel to Acts 23:6'
where there is a
state1ent in indirect
discourse; John 1:1 is
• direct. -°I am neither a

WE RESERVE THE RIGHT TO LIMIT QUANTITIES TO NORMAL FAMILY REQUIREMENTS!
At least a non-Christian
is honest enough to
recognize the truth of
John 1:1 where it says in
the Greek that "The word
was God".
Mr. Barney and all
Jehovah's Witnesses for
that matter, are we to
simply ignore these
efninent Greek scholars,
and stubbornly cling to
the manmade teachings
of the Watchtower, none
of whom had any
edrucation. "to speak of in
Greek grammar?
The question is begging
for an answer.
