Ladies ond season with curling jitney
The Maitland ladies
ended their curling
season with a curling
jitney in which the losers
where the winners.

Suns fall short of win
Goderich's -Suncoast
Suns fell just two goals
short of winning the
WOAA Atom cham-
pionship .in hockey action
last week.
On Wednesday evening
the Suns travelled to
Listowel and beat the
Listow.el Cyclones 4-2, It
was their first win over
the Cyclones this season.
After two scoreless
periods, Scott Garrow,
captain of the Suns,
slammed in two quick
.goals to start the third
period .off right for
Goderich. He was
assisted by Shawn Larder
on the first goal and
unassisted on the second.
Listowel -answered with
a goal scored by captain,
Chet Hymers assisted by
Bruce Dietrich.
Garrow was not
finished with his scoring
spree however. He picked
up a pass from Shawn
Larder and scored
Goderich's third goal and
then easily clinched the
game for his team with.a
fourth unassisted goal.

Suns. '
On Thursday evening
the Suns travelled to
Listowel again, this time
tc play the Brussels Atom
team.
Brussels scored four
goals nvar the three
periods before Goderich
came on strong in the
final period to retaliate
with three goals of their
own. It was too little too
late though as the Suns
lost the hard fought game
5-4.
Brussels captain, Dean
Wheeler, scored all five
of his team's goals, two of
them unassisted. Marty
Rutledge and Mike Saxon
assisted on the others,
Shawn Larder scored
the Suns first goal in the
third period,• assisted by
Scott Darrow. Garrow
scored a second goal for
• Goderich several seconds
later, assisted by Larry
Leppington and Todd
Nurse.
Leppington . scored
Goderich's third goal five
minutes later on a .pass
from•Garrow.
Just when things were
looking up for the Suns,
the Brussels captain
scored his fifth goal of the
game.
The Suns still didn't
give up though.. With less
than 'one minute left to
play, Garrow scored a
fourth goal for Goderich
assisted by Larder and.
Chris White.
Time ran out for the
Suns however and the
score remained at 5-4
making the Brussels
team the WOAA Atom
championship winners
for 1980.

and dinner, the annual
meeting was held with
reports of the year's
activities and the
nomination of officers for
the 1980..81 season.
Retiring president, Kay •
King, was a master of
action and diplomacy and
her friendly smile and
manner greatly con-
tributed to making the
curling season a
resounding success for
the Maitland ladies.
The slate of officers for
the new season are: past
president, Kay King,
president, Lynn Edward,
secretary -treasurer, Ann
Kuran, jitney chairman,
Joanne Hood, bonspiels,
Vicki Culbert, vice
president, Jean McGee,
second-. vice-president,
Lynn Todgham, Tuesday
afternoon draw, - Jane
Klages, Wednesday
night, Vivienne Takalo,
Ways and Means, Gertie
Wilson.
Tuesday afternoon
convener, Susan White,
presented prizes for the
second and third draw.
Winners inthe second
draw were: first, Mary
Anne Dempsey, skip,
Penny Peters, Nancy
NaeLennon, Gerty
Wilson; second, Lynn
Edward, skip, Jean
McGee; third, Susan
White, Shelagh Sully,
Sally Macewan.
The winners of the third
draw and the Maitland
trophy were Eleanor
Erskine, skip; Susan
White, and Elenor
Fisher. In second place
was Mary Ann Dempsey,
skip, Jean McGee, Jane
Klages, Phyl Lawrence;
third, Nancy McKinnon,
skip, Kay King, Lynn
Todgham; Elaine Remit -
min.'
Vivienne Takalo
presented the Jean
McDonald trophy to the
winners of that alraw.
Jean McGee's rink won,
and in second place was
Ann Kuran's team with
the team of Vicki Culbert
coming in third.
Jean McGee and her
Curling Cuties sang a
couple of songs written
