Sailors eliminated in four games
BY CATH WOODEN
The Goderich Sailors
bit the dust Friday night
and were eliminated
from the OHA Inter -
:mediate C semi-finals by
the Dresden Lum-
berkings in four games
straight.
Dresden outplayed
Goderich in the
progressively rowdy
fourth game and won by a
score of 7-4.
Sailor captain Wayne
Rau opened the game's
scoring four minutes into
the game by dumping an
unassisted power play
goal past Dresden net -
m rider -Barry Mi1Ts while
Bill Latimer was off for
an elbowing offence.
Four minutes later,
Dresden replied with
their first goal from Doug
Easter and Rick Chin -
nick. Dresden then went
ahead in the first period
on a goal from Dave
Houston while Sailor Ken
Meriam was in the box
for a roughing penalty.
The Sailors evened up
the score to 2-2 at the 3:06
mark of the second period
after Dan Colquhoun
fired a shot past Mills.
Ron Sowerby assisted on
the play.
The Lumberkings
_uickly surged ahead
with four unanswered
goals in the same period.
Ten seconds after
Colquhoun's goal, George
Sherman beat out Sailor
goalie, Bob Hnatyk, with
a shot assisted by Reg
Howard and Fred Martin.
While Colquhoun was
off for hooking, Dresden
went farther ahead on a
goal by Doug Easter,
assisted by Rick Chinnick
and Al Pray. A minute
later, the winning goal for
Dresden . was netted by
Chinnick. The assists
went to Howard and
Martin.
A minute after that,
Martin got another one
for Dresden with Wayne
GowveTiasssttng:
With two minutes left in
the second period,
Goderich's Ken Meriam
and Paul Kelly managed
to sneak a third goal past
Mills, leaving the score 6-
3 for Dresden at the end
of the second period.
Each team .took time
out from a penalty -ridden
third period to score one
goal: Dresden's came
first at 13:55 from Doug
De .•Line and Goderich
ended the scoring at 18:35
with a goal by Ken Daer,
assisted by Jim Farrish
and Paul Rau,
Throughout the third
period, the crowd singled
out Dresden's Wayne
Cowell as a target for
abuse. When he was
given a misconduct
halfway through the
period, several of the
Goderich spectators
made a lunge for him as
he made his way to the
dressing room.
The Lumberkings now
go on to play in. the OIlA
Intermediate C finals.
The Sailors fell behind
by three games dropping
a 9-1 decision to the
Lumber Kings in Dresden
•• last Wednesday.

close in the penalty -filled
game score wise
surrendering four goals
in the opening period
without a hint of
retalliation. The lumber
Kings added to thier total
with -three goals in the
second period and
completed the rout with
two goals in the final
period.
The Sailors scored their
lone goal in the second
period as Rick Fremlin

Dresden net after taking
a pass from Ken Meriam.

the third game and

misconduct, two -10 -
minute misconducts and"
a five minute fighting
major in addition to 14
minor penalties. The
Sailors were tagged with
nine minor penalties and
