catches coon
Ever have oneof those days when nothing seems
to go right? Well, this poor old raccoon must
have been thinking that last Thursday morning
after he scurried up a poplar tree on South Street
for a short snooze, only to discover that a dog
was planning to spend the rest of the day
guarding the bottom of it. The coon finally
managed to escape his uncomfortable perch
sometime during " Thursday night. .(photos by

Knox V.M.S. meets for Easter
The Women's
Missionary Society

Knox Church, Goderich
met for their Easter
meeting on March 18 at
2:30 p.m. with a very
good attendance of
members, Arthur Circle
members and other
guests.
Mrs. Gordon Kaitting,
president, opened• the
meeting.. With. Mrs.
Gordon Henderson at the
piano, one verse of the
theme hymn, "Unto the
Hills," was sung,
followed by' the hymn,
"This is my Father's
World."
The call to worship w s
taken from the ,book, "Ie
Leadeth Me", which was
recently donated to the
grmip.-.-by -.Deli's,---Ja-ck
Leitch of Toronto.
Minutes of the
February meeting were
read by the secretary,
Mrs. Jas. Horton.
Mrs. 0. Falkiner read
thank you notes and told
of cards sent to the sick
and shut-ins.
Mrs. Girvin Young,
literature secretory,
encouraged members to
make use of the library,
and told of a new book
which has been added to
it.
Mrs. Kaitting again
thanked the group for the
Honorary Life Mem-
bership which she
received at the February
meeting.
Mrs. Robert McAllister
told of the Synodical
meeting to be held in
Brantford on April 22, 23
and 24.
The Presbyterial
meeting is to be held in
Knox Church, Goderich
on May 14 with the Arthur
Circle to charge of
arrangements.
Mrs. Ira Dickie took
charge of the devotions
for "The Fellowship of
the Least Coin" and told
of an article in a recent
•Glad 'Pictigs-tkl
founding of of this world-
wide fellowship by Shasfi
Solomon of India."
After the singing of, "In
the Cross," Mrs. G.L.
Royal, program con-
vener, took charge of the
meeting.
Mrs. A.C.- Young read
the scriptures from St.
John, Chapter 17, Jesus
prayed prior to his
cricifixion. This was
followed by a brief
meditation, a poem, "He
Passed This Way," and
prayer.

Mrs. Jack (Anne) Leitch,
a "former member of
Knox Church, GQderich
and of the W.M•S., and
now a member of St.
Andrews Church,
Toronto. She told a little
of their church activities
and thier three-phase
building program'.
Her message was
entitled, "The Story of
Easter in Flowers".

Governments
pick .up housing tab
Huron County will save
about $63,000 this year as
a result of the recent.
Throne Speech in the
Ontario Legislature.
At the present time, the
operational deficits on all
Ontario Housing family
and senior citizens
projects in Huron County
• are shared 50 per cent by
the federal government,
42.5 per cent by the
provincial government
and 7.5 per cent by local
municipal governments.
In the speech from the
throne, it was announced
that as of April 1, 1980, the
federal and provincial
governments will split
the costs in half,°relieving
the municipal govern-
ments' share of 7.5 per
cent.
The savings for Huron
Couny may be seen from
the deficit figures for
1979, $62,662.45.
