Artistic [Director Aileen
Taylor -Smith told a
recent press conference
that the program
depended on funding
from various government
programs.
"Applications have
been sent and we are very
optimistic that we will be
fo- offer at least a
Saturday Morning
Childrens' Theatre
performance and also a
program which will allow
young people (ages'8 -12)
funding
to geteinvolved in creative
dramatics in a workshop
environment. Con- -
firmation and details of
the programs will be
announced as soon as we
receive a positive
response regarding our
grant application."
Among the tentative
plans for •the young
players are special
cabaret performances
after the Friday night
regular production and a
special propction of the
hit musical Flicks,
tentatively scheduled for
August 24, 25 and, Sep-
tember 1. James Saar,
the author of Flicks has
consented to direct the
production. He will be
remembered as the
author and director of the
special produclion
Backstage during the
1979 season.
Playhouse appoints
new publicity director.

Playhousein Grand Bend
has appointed Heather
Redick of Zurich to the
position of Publicity
Director, Making the
announcement, General
Manager, Marc Quinn
said he was very pleased
to locate someone with
her, experience and en-
thusiasrn.
Mrs. Redick has over
ten years business ex-
perience. For the latter
five, she was closely
associated with the
graphic. design and ad-
vertising industry, in the
capacity of Production
Manager,. and more
recently, Acco-unt
Executive, with
Agripress Canada
Limited of Hensall..
At Huron Country
Playhouse, Mrs. Redick
will be responsible for all
publicity and 'media -
public relations for the
entire program presented
by the theatre.. The
recently "announced 1980
HEATHER REDICK
season includes four
popular comedies, a
large scale musical
production, a film series,
children's programs, and
other major events.

the Canada Council has
awarded a .5peCial ''
Project grant to the
Playhouse • for the
presentation of. • • a
Canadian play.
'F'ree 'at Last, a new
comedy by Eric Nicol,
has been successfully
produced in Vancouver
.Fredericton. The
Ontario Premiere 'will
take place at Huron
Country Playhouse in
Grand Bend on August 7
(previews August 5-6)
and play until August 16.
The grant for $1,500 will
aid in offsetting some
costs of this special
Canadian production.
Free at last, is a
comedy about a recently
separated man in his
forties. His faith in
himself is shattered, and
then he finds Sheila to
help him pick up the
pieces. Humour is never
' far :-aw .a's-fie -struggler — --
with the problems of
male menopause and his
attempts to' be '-'free' at
last".
The Ontario Arts
Council has increased its
Operating Grar.t this
year by $500over last
year's $26,000. In ad-
dition,' a special grant of
$1,000 from the Ontario,
Touring Arts Fund will
supplement the cost of a
special one-night only
performance of Spring
Thaw '80 on June 7.
Tickets for Spring Thaw
'80 are available -by Mail-
order to subscribers only
until April 28, at which
time they will go. on sale
to the general public.
The Goderich Lions Club gave the senior citizen renovation
project at McKay Hall a big boost recently after ,presenting the
group with a cheque. for $5,000. A senior citizens group has
.. planned extensive renovations to McKay Hail to make it suitable
•
for a seniors centre. Fund-raising co-chairman for the project,
Harold Bettger and Bill Ross accepted the donation from Lions
Club president, Paul Rivers and community betterment chair. -

for Seniors on Wed-

scores in euchre and the
winners in 500 were Mrs.
Mary' McPhee and Mr.
George Kennedy.

chairman of the steering

several draws for prizes
and for a brief business

Mrs. Ellen Smith
reported that quilters will
be called on to help make
a quilt in the near future.
Mrs. Frances Worsen
asked for volunteers to
give leadership to the
Green Thumbers, the
junior garden club. If
anyone is interested in
helping, contact Mrs.
Worsell.
The Department of
Recreation is sponsoring
a course in old-fashioned
rug hooking beginning in
April. For information
