McLlwain leads Seaforth

Kevin Melady was the hero
of • the game, scoring the
overtime goal to give
Seaforth the 'C' division
championship against
Walkerton:
The first period opened and
is seemed to be Seaforth's
game with two quick goal by
an outstanding player; David
McLlwain.
But Walkerton wasn't going
to be left behind and Sean
Bradley scored for Walkerton
at the 2:15' mark. They tied
the score • a little over ; a
minute later with a goal by
a C title
Dan Oahms.
Seaforthtook the lead again
with a goal by Greg Murray
and Walkerton, again' came
back again and tied the score.
It was Walkerton's turn to
Seaforth defeated Walkerton to win the C division championship
take the lead at the 6:15 mark
of the first period.
The second period was
scoreless and both teams
were pressing into each
other's ends. Both goalie's
made excellent -saves' during
the period.
Walkerton scored two goals
in the third period an it
seemed as if Seaforth had lost
the game. It was the last five
minutes of the period before
David McLlwain decided that
enough was enough- and
within 61 seconds scored two
goals to push the game into
overtime. -
But it was at the 1:01 mark
of the - overtime period that
Melady became the star with
a quick shot into Walkerton's
goal.

The . Goderich; Lions
brought home the original
Young Canada Hockey Week
trophy after 21 . years of
waiting, with a 2-1 victory
over TillSonburg in the `B'
division on Saturday.
The first period of the game

wins
was close- checking as both
teams had limited op-
portunities.
Both teams were bottled up
in their end several times as
neither team could get un-
tracked in the early part of
the first period.
The best scoring chance of
Rob Gibbons (5) scored both Lions goals
championship
the period was .thwarted?by
Rob Dunn, the Goderich
goaltender. Dunn kicked mit a
shot that was labelled for the
bottom corner. The fist
period also had many stiff
checks as both teams checked
closely.
Tillsonburg goalie machi
great save on Todd Graham
to keep the period scoreless.
Trevor Erb -was robbed of a
goal on a great save by the
Tillsonburg goalie,
Goderich scored the 'first
goal of the game at the 8:03
mark of the second period.
Shaun Rahbek took a shot
Trevor Erb accepted the B championship trophy
which rebounded out to Erb,
Erb -let a wrist shot go but
was stopped by the Tillson-
burg goalie, the puck trickled
past tite post only to have -Rob
Gibbons slap the puck in: -The
secondperiod' ended 'with
Goderich ahead 1-0.
Rob Gibbons put Goderich
ahead 2-0 at the eight second
mark of the second period.
Gibbons scored on a wrist_
shot from a near impossible
angle. "1 was looking for the
stick corner, but by that time
I was in the corner, it was a
flukey goal," said Rob.
But the Tillsonburg- team
showed that they were a good .
team and scored at the 15:57
mark of the third rieriod.-
Hutchison took a pass from
teammate David Moylan and
scored on a slapshot froth Nit
outside the Goderich. -blue
line. Hutchison's goat cut
Goderich's lead to 2-1.
Tillsonburg applied
pressure to the Goderich
goaltender but could not solve
Rob Dunn.
Bill Rahbek, manager of
Goderich, said, "What :can I
say, the kids were confident,
they said they were going to
win the championship for Nip
Whetstone and Guy Emerson
of the Lions Club."
Coach Madge said, "The
kids would not he denied."
