A meal was served by a group of United Church Women. Vice-president, Lion Bill Crawford, was in charge of the meeting. The minutes of the previous meeting were adopted on motion • by Lion Jim Schneider and seconded by Lion Steve Campbell as read by the -secretary, Lion Bob Worsell. The financial statement was given by treasurer, Lion Jim Schneider, in which he reviewed each account. A motion . to adopt this report was made hy Lion )3'ud -Charnney; seconded by Lion Fred Lawrence. Details of the 'Goderich Mini Convention were discussed along with plans for Lion Bud Chamney's campaign for Zone Chairman. In other business, plans for the Ladies' Fastball Tournament were reviewed. Participation in Dungannon's 125th birthday party celebrations was also discussed. Auburn and. District Lions Club Members extend their thanks to Lion Al Luna who donated $250 to the Club as a result of winning the Auburn Lions Lottery last week. W.I. Members of the Auburn Women's Institute went to Huronview to take part in the March birthday party last Wednesday. All went early and helped with the wheelchairs to bring the residents down t� the assembly hall. The president, •Mrs. Eleanor •Bradnock, welcomed all to the program which began with a sing -song led by Mrs. Tom Jardin and Mrs. Donald Haines with Mrs. Emmerson Rodger at the piano. A medley of old-time tunes was played on the piano by Mrs. Gordon Chamney,. 'A reading, ,Daffodils, from the old third reader, was given by Mrs. Thomas Haggitt. Several numbers on the violin were played by Oliver Anderson ac- companied by Mrs. Kenneth McDougall. A piano solo was played by Beth Hawley and Beth and Amy Hawley sang a duet, Miss Polly Had a Baby, accompanied by 47.,s.4.14Vco, their mother, t'Irs. "Rick Hawley. Two selections on the mouth organ were played by Ross Robinson, ac- companied on the piano by Mrs. Donald Haines. Happy. Birthday was sung with Mrs. Emmerson Rodger at the piano. Mrs. Beth Lansing gave out the gifts and cards to Mrs. Ethel Sturdy, Miss Margaret Mitchell, Josephine Cunningham, Andrew Easton, Irene O'Connor, Frank Howson, Alex Woodrow, Ruth Mutch, Pearl Gidley, Violet White, Lucille Scratch, Jenny Rutledge, Julia Stevens, Eber Lewis, josejih lnannell, and William Racho. Birthday cake and tea were served to all with a tiny candle on each cupcake of each celebrant. Cara Vogl, Sharon Snell and R uthann McIntosh. A large paper umbrella was decorated with bows by Marian Taylor and Shannon Vogl. Relatives, friends "and neighbors were •present and the basement •was decorated with streamers of yellow, blue and white, and a white umbrella. Corsages were pinned on Sandra by her aunt, Mrs. Arnold Cook, on her mother, Mrs. Garth McClinchey by Marian Taylor and on her sister, Miss Janice McClinchey by Shannon Vogl. While the guests were arriving, Mrs. Sidney McClinchey played the piano. Mrs. Lynn Smith was the chairman for the • program which began with a sing -song led by Mrs. Bev. Irvine. She also sang two solos, ac- companied by Mrs: Sidney McClinchey. Mrs. Lloyd McClinchey led in prayer. A contest was given by Marian Taylor and Shannon Vogl read an amusing letter. Lana and Leslie Lawrence sang two duets accompanied by their mother, Mrs. Fred Lawrence. Mrs. Eleanor Bradnock conducted a bridal contest. Mrs. Corrie Wallace congratulated Sandra and extended good wishes on her coming marriage.. Gifts were presented by SOCIAL NEWS Mr. and Mrs. Norman McDowell arrived home last week after a few weeks' vacation in Florida. Visitors on the weekend with Mr. and Mrs; Donald Cartwright, Dtt.vi d, Derrick and Lorie were Mr. and Mrs. George Rueger, Danny, Terry and Wendy of London, William Rueger of R.R.2 Clinton and Allan Gerofsky of London. Mr. and Mrs. F. J. Mrs. Donald Cart- wright. reported on Auburn I, 4-H club and Mrs. Frank Raithby reported on the labels of Canada Packers and Maple Leaf products. The members are urged to turn them in as_ soon as possible so the hall kit- chen supplies can be sent for. Agriculture • and Canadian Industries conveners, • Mrs. Roy Daer and Mrs. Donald Cartwright, had as guest speaker, Miss Susan Zielman of Dashwood, fruron County's Deli -it Princess. She showed the film, FrOrn Cow to Carton and then told the history of the dairy industry in Huron County. Mrs. Robert Peck in- troduced her and Mrs. Cartwright thanked her and presented her with a gift. A reading, Rise Above the Circumstances, ' was given by Mrs. Oliver Anderson. A piano instrumental was . played by Mrs. Sidney McClinchey and a musical contest con- ducted by Mrs. McClinchey was won by Mts. 'Kenneth McDougall. Mrs. Major Youngblut gave a reading, I Wan- der. The roll call was an- swered by ' naming changes and what progress has taken place in agriculture today. Plans were made to have the Annual meeting on April 15 with a potluck dinner at noon. The district president, Mrs. William Porter, will be • the guest and there is to be a display of crafts by the members. They will be in the charge of Mrs. Tom Haggitt and Mrs. Tom Lawlor. The nominating committee of Mrs. Donald Haines, Mrs. Frank Raithby and Mrs. Leonard Archambault - %cal bring in the slate of officers and all conveners are asked to have theit reports. Hostesses were Mrs. Oliver Anderson, Mrs. Major Youngblut and Mrs. Roy Daer. Tender prices are being, asked for the proposed hall which has been, estimated to cost $30,000. The townships of Morris, McKillop and Grey have guaranteed a total of $10,000, but the balance of the•cost.would have to be raised by the community. Another $5,000 has been offered by the Walton Area Sports Club, leaving the club with $15,000 to rai see - They are not counting on Wintario grants to give any financial help.
