Service Award in Zone K
for a special ptroject they
have been working on for
over three„months in co-
operation with the town
and the town's senior
citizens.
A New Horizons grant
for $2,5® plus $940 from
the town and $940 from
the Kinsmen Club
enabled club members to
completely renovate a
room in the Goderich
Public Library in which
senior - citizens , and
members of the
Octogenarian Club meet
for three hours a day, six
days a week for
fellowship and card
g4Ples.
Renovations included
new washroom facilities,
new lighting, new
heating, pannelled and -
painted walls, new
flooring and new tables
and chairs.
Between 15 and 20
senior citizens had been
meeting in the room for
over 30 years but it was
always in poor condition
and recently had been
threatened with closure
upon a fire and safety
inspection.
On Tuesday . of this
week a ribbon was cut in
honor o,f the newly
renovated room which is.
being called the Pat
Patterson Room, after
'the late Pat Patterson., a
Kinsmen who was in-
strumental in getting the
meeting room going.
Dick Eisler, by-law officer, has found another puppy wandering the streets
of Goderich. Eisler is sure someone owns the male, part -terrier puppy that
he says is "a good kisser." He picked the puppy up last week and it will be
kept at the pound for another few days and destroyed if no one claims

Ralph Barrie to speak to HuronCounty farmers
Ralph Barrie, newly -
elected president of the

the Huron County
Federation's meeting on
April 3 at 8:30 p.m at the
Grey Township Central
School at Ethel. His topic
Together .We Stand
""- artd- Iie'-t1.1=arYtliTvii"
farmers need the OFA .
the accomplishments of
the OFA ,and what the
OFA is presently in-
volved in.
-le has been asked to
include in his address the.
ideas debated at the
March provincial
'director's meeting . on
high interest rates.
Earlier a protest march
by farmers to Ottawa had
been „suggested.
High interest rates hit
new farmers who have
recently borrowed large
amounts. of .money _. for•..,
rusaithe
land and equipment the
hard'est. With low pig and
cattle prices these far-
mers aren't able to pay
their interest costs.
Already some farmers
have been forced out of
business and the outlook
for the next year is grim
for many farmers with a
big debt load. There is
some differenceamong
farrne•rs across Canada
as to whether interest
rates should be lowered
overall or just lowered
