Jail offers new tour
The. Huron Historic
Gaol will soon be opening
its doors to visitors for
the sixth season on April 7
and is to offer a new
method in self -guided
touring as well as three
new features.
The new method
consists of a very concise
tour brochure that directs
the visitor's eye to hand
printed, easy `.to read
signs that are posted at
all points of interest. The
use of the signs allows the
story of the gaol to be told
in more detail.
This eliminates the
_necessity-of-tr-yng-to read ---
a long story while coping
with cell doors and cir
cular stairways. It also
gives each individual the
privilege of spending as

preview performances,

tain officially goes up on
June. 26 with Noel
Coward's classic comedy
Private . Lives. The play
celebrates . its ' 50th an-
niversary in 1980 and also
received the distinction of
being the first play to be

takes over for the rest of
July. From July 8 to 19,
Neil Simon's hit The
Sunshine . Boys' is
scheduled.
Same Time Next Year,
Bernard Slade's propular
hit which is 'still running
on ° Broadway, follows
from July 22 to August 2.
The season's fourth
play will be the Ontario
premiere of a new
Canadian comedy, Free
At Last. The play. . by
Vancouver humorist Eric
Nicol. has played to
enthusiastic audiences on
both coasts and Huron
Country Playhouse is
pleased to be able to offer
this farcical tale of male
menopause to central
Canada. Free At Last
appears from August 5 to
16. •
Finally, the 'musical
choice for the season is
Irving Berlin's Annie 'Get -
Your, Gun.

favourite- was first
produced in 1936 with
Ethel Merman in the title
role`, Huron` Country
Playhouse's Annie , will
work her magic for three.
weeks, from August 19 to
September 6.
"We feel our 1980
season is an ambitious
one which presents the
'theatre With lots of
challenges," says Taylor -
Smith. "But our loyal
audiences which have
supported, the theatre
since 1972 certainly
deserve no less!"

students under various

All of this has been in
process for the last three

On the second floor will
be the gaoler's apartment
furnished as it was when
the gaoler lived in the
gaol until -a cottage was
built to house his family.
Also on this floor the
bathroom will be restored
to its original state, plus
equipment that was
adddedthrough the life of
the gaol.
Curator Harry Bosnell
says that he hopes to
continue restoration in
this way and eventually
portray the entire life of
-the--- gaol—rather—thaw
restore it to the 1839 era.

complete, the four cell
blocks will each show a
definite' period in the 133
