The Goderich Signal-Star, 1980-03-13, Page 3012A---GODERICH SIGNA,I...SITAR, THURSDAY, MARCH 13, 1980 1 ers to the editor riter criticizes Ronald Gardiner's comments on Christ's deity Dear Editor, Although Mr. Barney will probably reply himself, Ronald Gar - diner's letter prompted -me to write and criticize his comments concerning Christ's deity. Religious beliefs such as this, indicate that Jesus Christ an are one and the same, that Jesus Christ is the Almighty God. Mr. Gardiner begins his -criticism by quoting from "The Kingdom Interlinear Translation of Below the belt Dear Editor, Having read Mr. Barney's and Mr. Gar - din -erg letters err this - page for the last couple of weeks, I have come to the ccmclusaion that Mr. Barney has finally gone below the belt. After accusing Mr. Gardiner of attacking._ _-the - W_a.t- chtower Society, when he is only affirming the scriptures on the deity of Christ, he finally stoops to attacking Mr.. Gar- diner personally. His answer, if indeed it is an answer to Mr. Gardiner's letters, Who is Kurios (Lord), is very misleading. If heinsists on qutoing from ,the New Testament in Hebrew and English, to show t, iat Jehovah is Kurios (Lord) in Rev. 1:8, why doesn't he use the same bible at Phill. 2y-1-0, 11, where Kurios is •again used and therefore according to the Watchtower Society, as it is a quote from Isaiah 45:23,. should read 'And every tongue should openly acknowledge. that Jesus Christ is Jehovah (Kurlos)' Therefore if we follow Jehovah's Witnesses logic right to the end, they themselves prove 'that Jesus is Jehovah, God Almighty, as is the Father. Mr. Barney also gives no answer to Romans 10:9 where according to rules set down 'by the Watchtower Society (p. 1353 Revised Kingdom Bible under True Lord) Jesus is again shown to be Jehovah, the only true :L -the ui. How can we believe a the Greek Scriptures" (by Jehovah's Witnesses) from page 17. 1 feel it is necessary to repeat this for clarity. "...the diyine name in Tetragrammaton form has been eliminated from the text by. copyists who group of people who continually break their own rules, just to keep a - ppregtateewe -deetrtne, namely that, Jesus is a god, not God Almighty and that he should not be worshipped? Jehovah's Witnesses were permitted, however, ta_worship him - in the past. In an article appearing in the Wat- chtower, October 15, 1945, p. 313, it reads: 'Whosoever would worship Him must also worship and bow down to Jehovah's Chief One in that capital organization, namely, Christ Jesus, his so -regent on the throne of the Theocracy'. Yet, in 1964 in the Watchtower November 1, 1964, p. 671, they say it is unscriptural to worship the Son of God, Jesus Christ, In 1971 the Watchtower 'Society said that relative worship may be rendered to Christ (Aid to Bible Understanding, p. 1242) yet in. 1965 (Make Sure of All Things, p, 249) relative worship is idolatry. How are we to have peace with God if we listen to such an organization. as Jehovah's' Witnesses, who have kept changing even their most basic doctrines, but yet claim to be God's_ prophet on 'earth (Watchtower. April 1,•1972, p. 197) plus the 'only Organization on earth that .understands the deep things of God' (Watchtower, July 1, 1972;p: 402) . Yours, M.D. 1''oster,,-- Stratford. Let's not force sue says Barney Dear Editor, The editor of our local paper, the Clinton News - Record some time' ago expressed the opinion that a controversy which has been going on for centuries will not be settled by a small town newspaper: and I agree with him. However, I wish ' to thank y,ou for your consideration and for publishing Bible in - Why dispute ? Dear Editor, In reply to Mr:' Barney, the King James Version of the Bible clearly states that "man was made in the image of God" and I assume - that man - is a triune being - spirit, soul and body, God is Father, Son and Holy Ghost. The ones who argue with Mr. Barney are trying to convince him that he is all there. But if he chooses to believe he is not, why dispute it?Maybe he isn't. If -he is going to dispute the Trinity of God, the spirit, soul and body of man are also in question. Sincerely, N.J. Minaker formation 1 have sub- mitted over the many years past. Readers of your paper have had ample opportunity to search their own copies of the Bible as to whether "these. things are so" ' ('Acts 17:11). Just as the "accepted authorities" have recently : acknowledged their errot-in dealing with Galileo, so •thetime will. come When, to quote the Psalmist, men will "know that thou whose name alone is JEHOVAH, art the most high over-all the earth." (Psalm 83:18). Being a minority is not a new thing for Christians, and Jesus' own words at Matthew 24:9 must have its fulfillment. However-, --my position has been made clear and oppbsers _are making their - position clear. Sincere readers of your paper can intelligently decide where they stand only if they have the available information. So let's not force the issue. As in Galileo's case, time will vindicate Jehovah and those who worship him in spirit and in truth. Sincerely yours, C.F. Barney, Clinton. Your authorized Dealer for.,.
