Huron Country
Playhouse at Grand Bend
has come up with a
double delight for a pre-
season opener this year.
The popular Monte
Carlo Night scheduled for
June 7 will be preceded
by a performance of the
touring revue Spring
Thaw • '8.0, starring
Rosemary Radcliffe,
Mary Ann McDonald,
Brenda Bradley, Paul
Brown, Marvin Karon
and Patrick Young.'`
The prod-uctto'n is a -
modern revival of the
famous Spring Thaw'
shows of the 50!9- and 60s,
the secret of which, ac-
cording to cast alumnus,
Don Harron was
"Ca nadians'
tremendous capacity for
laughing at themselves."
(Harron's popular
character Charlie
Farquharson was
developed in Spring
Thaw).
Produced by Alan
Gordon' . by special
arrangement with Mayor
Moore, Spring Thaw '80
promises to build on the
reptitation of previous
revues and leaye the

Huron roads
to cost more
BY HENRY HESS
Huron County will have to come up with an
additional $95,000 to spend on roads in 1980, an
increase of eight per cent over last year.
In the budget presented to county council last
Thursday it was noted that proposed ex-
penditures actually are up only 6.7 per cent, a "
total increase of $219,000•. However the Ministry
of Transportation and Communications has
reduced its subsidy' by $33,000 this year,
meaning more of the money must be raised
through the county levy.
• EngineerBoob-Dempsey-explained the m.ajor..
increase in the budget is due to the energy
situation. Asphalt prices are up to $150-$160 per
ton, he reported, com-pared to $70-$75 when he
came to the county two years ago.
McKillop Township Reeve Allan Campbell
had a suggestion how the county could save
some money, but it didn't get very far. .
Mr. Campbell said that while he had no
quarrel with the $1,366 the county spent on
repairing the .Hullett-M'cKillop boundary
bridge last year, he did question the $10,000
budgeted for engineering studies on that bridge
and another one in 1980. •
He could have told the county the bridge is in
bad shape, he commented, and he would.have
been glad todo it for a lot less than $10,000.
"If you'll fund 80 per cent of the cost I'll be
glad to take your word," Mr. Dempsey
