This supplement is an income. tested payment and if payments are to continue to eligible recipients beyond March 31, 1980, it will be essential for the Health and Welfare Department to review the entitlement of the recipients in the light of 1979 income. During the week of December -2-4, ap- • plications were mailed to the 370,000 recipients of the Old Age Security pension who also received the Guaranteed Income Supplement. These applications must be completed and returned to Health and Welfare prior to April 1, if they are to, be able to retain continuity of payment to eligible recipients. The senior citizens who have virtually no income other than the Old Age Security and the Guaranteed Income Supplement who do not have to wait for T-4 or -related income documents should have submitte-d -- their ap- plications by now or should be submitting them right away. For those who need income tax information before being able to provide a true picture as to their income, applications should be submitted to Health -arid Welfare immediately after receipt of "' income documents. SO for those of you who are eligible for the. guaranteed income supplement, I simply , want to remind you that your applications should be submitted,right away so that you may continue to recei-ve-pa-ymen. YOUTH EXCHANGE Another program of a different type that young people would be in- terested in is the Agricultural Youth Exchange prograni. This International program places young :people in agricultural or.. hor- ticultural operations in other . countries for peribds of four months to ,one year. The exchange program was established to give young people who have a keen interest in agriculture. a chance 'to learn more about the production techniques in other counties. These young people aslo broaden their horizons by experiencing another culture. • Ontario Farmers have been.e.host for the youth exchange program for several years. Japanese young people have been • given the opportunity to train on Ontario farms for 22 years. A , similar arrangement _with the United Kingdom began in 1969 and with•Denmark in 1973. Organizers of the program would like to place one Ontario person ii another country for• every person placed in Ontario. For the 1980 program beginning in the spring, it is hoped that there would be 55 ex- change opportunities for the following countries:, France 15; Denmark 10; United Kingdon 15; and up to 15 for Japan. Arrangements can also be made for young people who want to work in the Netherland's. To be eligible .fon the program, the young Men and women must be planning a career in agriculture or hor- ticulture. They must be between 18 and 28 years of age and have at least two years experience in agriculture or hor- ticulture. The required experience may include one year of study in an agricultural program at a college or university.
