Janet Kalbfleisch will be secretary • for the cam- paign. Plans ,-for renovations to the hall have been ready for some time. These were prepared by Jim Magee, Chairman of the Property Committee •in Goderich. These plans include a new heating system, washrooms, furniture, increased storage space, a meeting room, lounge and craft rooms in the basement and a much-needed elevator If funds are available. Letters have been sent to various organizations, and some of these organizations have already responded with generous donations. It is hoped that with the receipt of grant money and -the support of people in the Goderich area, work on the Centre may commence within the nekt rnb nth. Dave Harman, Percy Blundell and- Bea and Everett Sparling formed a committee to prepare a constitution for MacKay Centre for Seniors. They for .t4e. valuable assistance which Jim Moore has given to them. When this constitution is completed, it will be presented to the rne rhberS- of the Centre Tor their approval. ,s, At present there are 117 members of the Centre. To become a member -requires a fee of $2 which is a small amount to help with the upkeep of the Centre in return for the privilege of using it. This centre may be compared to a Y.M.C.A. where one pays a fee and is then entitled to take part in activities. Thus, the Centre will be a sort of "umbrella" with a number of clubs 'and interest groups operating within the framework. At present, the Golden Gate Club which was organized several years ago, is the only club operating within the Centre. However, plans are that in the future, in addition to the Golden Gate Club which has meetings, • card parties and bus trips, there will be special interest classes in crafts, health lectures on various topics, dailymtivities consisting '• of organized games arid meetings: In addition to the $2 user fee, money to sup- port the Centre may be raised through rental's"; special events, class fees, quilting, sale of crafts, and a travel club. It is hoped that the govern- ment grant for the annual operating cost of senior citizens' centres will be reinstated. On February 27, the steering committee sponsored a card party at MacKay Centre 'when several tables of euchre and 500 were in play. The chairman, Everett Sparling, welcomed those who attended and later in the evening, was in charge of several draws for prizes. Coffee and donuts , were served by russet and Margaret Alton, Grace Fuller and Everett and Bea Sparling. At this event, Percy Blundell, president of the Golden Gate presented a generous' cheque on their behalf to the special campaign fund. Another evening of cards and other 'games has been planned for Wednesday, March 12, at MacKay Centre. A special event, in- cluding a variety program and dance, will -tser--reid-bh Wednesday, - March 26 at the Centre. This is being arranged by Jim Magee. Proceeds from these events will be used for ongoing expenses with any surplus going to the campaign fund. On April 23, M-rs. Elizabeth Pearson, Director of the Friend- ship Centre for St. Marys Area Seniors, will visit MacKay Centre and speak. All interested residents of the Goderich area are invited to attend this meeting to hear the success story of the St. , Marys Friendship Centre. Watch for ad- vertisements concerning these future events. ******************** • TV 12 LISTINGS it * Mondays Lions TV Bingo 7:90-9 p.ni. • * 4 * Wednesdays - Beginning at 7 p.m. * * 1- "Storytime" with Caroline Cass * 2- "Surprise!" with Ronnie Varga 3- "I'll Be SeeingBYeoui:nwitg-ehSt7 Stan Profit * * * Thursdays- Beginning in 1 - "Simply: Sports" with Dick Eisler • * 2 - "What's Happening' with Fred * 3Sa_Regular gular monthly shows consisting * * * * of: Week 1: "Foxy's Friends" Week II - "Easy Listening" with Grant * Ellison.
