Wed- nesday, defeating the Listowel Lords 44-40 in the final game. The Huskies were undefeated in both the Huron -Perth schedule and the championship tournament. Clinton's Central Huron Redmen defeated Seaforth 30-28 to win the consolation chain; pionship. (photo by Dave Sykes) Monte Carlo night to:aid minor hockey The Lakeport Steelers and Green and Parent Mustangs are sponsoring a Monte Carlo Night at the Goderich Community Centre this - Friday 'evening from 8 p.m. to la.m. The teams, .are using the event as a fund raiser to finance an . exchange trip with Montreal hockey teams. The Steelers • and Mustangs will go to Montreal from April 3-6 for a round of exhibition games. Atom, peewee and bantam teams from Montreal will be playing Goderich March 28,29 and 30 on the first leg of the exchange. The admission price to Monte Carlo night is '$3 per person and tickets can be obtaineia attne door. Play money used for the games of chance will be raffled for prizes at the end of the evening and the lunch is included i.n,the admission price. • Members of the ban- tam and midget hockey teams will also be staging a light bulb canvass from March 14-21 to raise money for the•trip... Ringette teams end schedule The Goderich Junior ringette team defeated Listowel Ringers Sunday night '5-3 to end the schedulefor this year. They finished the season 6-5-1 with a total of 13 points to put them in third place. Sue Muffitt netted three goals and Allison Graham and Debbie Mitchelmore scored one each. Listowel responded goal_from Valerie.._-. H+Ielmka and two from Rev McClement. In the second game of the evening the Goderich senior girls defeated Listowel 5-2 to end their, season for this year. Goals were scored by Debbie Mitchelmore, Angela Alcock, Sue Muffitt, Kim Black,..and Robin MacDonald. Michel • Boyce was the goaltender for Goderich. The senior team was very small this year - the team members being Michel Boyce, Vicky King, Kim Black,.„Cathy Britnell, Audrey'Beacom, Heidi Elliott,' Robin MacDonald, and 'Angela' Carter. Due to an injury early_ in_ the season_. Angela was forced to give the game up. We would like to thank the junior girls who assisted us so willingly when we were short of players. The Vikings Played probably their best team game: of the season and outclassed Clinton bath offensively and defensively. David Gallow and Paul McCartney had 10 points each for Goderich. Mike Evans and, Don McCallum had nine apiece and Jeff Denomme had eight. Dave More had four, and Kevin Smith, Casey Van den Heuvel, Larry Baer and Paul Day each had two points. The Vikings were eliminated in a heart- breaking 33.32 loss to Listowel in the cham- pionship semi-final. The Vikings had lost 55-45 to enchants take series lead with 44 - Th.e Goderich Mer. chants grabbed a one - game lead in their opening round playoff series with a 4-1 win over Exeter in S,HHL Inter- mediate C action in Goderich Mdnday. The second game of the best -of -five series is scheduled for Exeter Friday and the third. game will be in Goderich, Monday, March 10 at 8.30 p.m. If a fourth game is necessary it will be played in Exeter Friday, March 14. The Merchants finished second in the league standings behind defending champions, Zurich Buckeyes while Exeter claimed sixth spot. Exeter contained the Merchant offence througn itrst nail of the gatne and led 1-0 on a first period goal by Bxian Taylor. That lead stood until 13.40 of the second period when Bruce Bowman evened the count for Goderich. Phil Petrie put the Merchants in the lead for the first time in the game at 17.10 of the second period banging in a pass from linemate Doug Smith. The Merchants took control of the game in the final period and in- creased their lead to two goals with Barry Block scoring at ?.05 with 'assists going to Smith and goaltender Doug Fisher. Paul Schaefer put the game out of reach with a goal midway through the final period. Goderich Lions Pee Wees preparing "The Goderich Lions Pee Wees are preparing for the Goderich Lions Young Canada'. Week 'tournament which begins next Friday. - The Lions played two tune-up exhibition games last weekend and gave strong efforts in both, one a 7-4 loss to the Lakeport Steel Bantams and the other a hard fqught 1-1 tie with Hanover in Hanover —Sunday. The game with ,the Lakeport Steel Bantams was an entertaining one, played with no bodychecking, and "'with the teamsexchanging goaltenders. Brad Armstrong and Paul Day had two goals each for the Bantams while• singles went to Daryl Madge, David Gallow and Andrew Telford. Trevor Erb had three goals for the Lions and. The winner of the Goderich-Exeter series will play the winner of the Hensall- Central is battle. Five members of the Merchants have been nominated for league 'awards, in five categories. Dave Graf is the team's entry in the most valuable player category and Ron Corriveau will again seek the best defenceman award. Paul Corriveau, has been nominated lfor the most sportsmanlike award and John Hoy will seek the most improved player award and Stege Chase will be seeking rookie of the year honors. for YCW registered assists. in Hanover, Rob Gibbons scored on a pass- out from Trevor Erb to give the Lions a 1-0 lead in the second period. Chris Dietz got the tying goal for Hanover late in the . period. ,The final period was scoreless as the Lions held an edge in play, „but were held at bay by Rob Ermel in the Hanover goal. The Vikingswere winning with one minute left in the ,sante, but Listowel tied it with 50 seconds remaitning. The Vikings lost the ball with 17 seconds left and the Lords came down the floor and drew a foul with _-onJ y ._..-.on.e_.__-- second -- ,remaining on the clock. The Listowel shooter made his second shot and the Lords won by one, thus eliminating the Vikings. ' Viking coach Myles Murdock expressed,pride in, the fine effort shown by his squad in the tourney and judged his team's season as "a very suc- cessful one."
