We need to relearn the survival and con- servation, skills which our ancestors • and native • people used every day. This summer, 4-11 members in Huron 'County will be relearning kills in a new 9-H project, "Out- door Living". It id designed to help mem.zo bers enjoy the outdoors ----- -by—being- physically - being able to use many different cooking methods and by knowing the basics' of first aid. A club outing is the highlight of the •club, whether it be a day hike or an overnight campout. Would you or someone you know be interested in leading .a 4-11 club? All you require is an interest in helping people, a desire to learn new things and several club mem- bers to work with. And don't neglect to ask the men in your community to help with this club. Their talents and ex- periences will be in- valuable. Husband and wife teamo -have proven _very_ _successful in other counties where the project has been offered. Members must be 12 to 26 years of age as of May 1, 1980. They may live in a town or in the country and may be boys or girls. Workshop sessions will be held for the leaders in March and late May. Five lessons will be taught and then Achievement Days will - be outsideln August. A healthy respect for mother nature is vital for safe snowmobi ling during cold weather. Winter Maintenance Pays! - Winter is the ideal time to repair ' farm .equipment. Most farmers have more time on their hands during this period. By checking and ser- vicing equipment in the winter months, you 'will save money and avoid frustrations in the busy season ahead. Winter maintenance could also prevent an accident from happening on your farm. Chain Saw Safety -.The chain saw is a very im- portant piece of equip - menton many f arras. It is also a very dangerous tool! The majority of chain saw injuries are caused by kickbacks. To avoid kickbacks, make certain that the nose of the cutting bar is clear of all. obstacles. Operators should hold their saw securely and position their feet properly to counteract any kick- backs. Thee simple precautions will help you avoid a chain saw injury.
