P.,,00141.ulatol3r, our busy
luestyles have put us out
of touch witb,the natural
world. We need to relearn
the survival and con-
servation, skills which our
ancestors • and native
• people used every day.
This summer, 4-11
members in Huron
'County will be relearning
kills in a
new 9-H project, "Out-
door Living". It id
designed to help mem.zo
bers enjoy the outdoors
----- -by—being- physically -
being able to use many
different cooking
methods and by knowing
the basics' of first aid. A
club outing is the
highlight of the •club,
whether it be a day hike
or an overnight campout.
Would you or someone
you know be interested in
leading .a 4-11 club? All
you require is an interest
in helping people, a
desire to learn new things
and several club mem-
bers to work with. And
don't neglect to ask the
men in your community
to help with this club.
Their talents and ex-
periences will be in-
valuable. Husband and
wife teamo -have proven
_very_ _successful in other
counties where the
project has been offered.
Members must be 12 to

Winter Driving Safety -
Winter driving conditions
double your chances of
having an accident.
Drivers have to contend
with hazards • such as
snow, 'ice and restricted
visibility during • winter
months. Respect for
these conditions reduces
the chances of an ac-
cident. Drive with extra
care this winter.
Snownnobiling In
Extreme Cold - Every
year a number of people
experience serious
mishaps as a „result of
operating snowmobiles in
extreme cold. To avoid
such incidents, dress
adequately for cold
temperatures. Be sure
your snow ttrablie is
mechanically fit. Don't
1, venture too far from
home or into unfamiliar
territory, and always
carry spare parts for
your machine. A healthy
respect for mother nature
is vital for safe
snowmobi ling during cold
weather.
Winter Maintenance
Pays! - Winter is the ideal
time to repair ' farm
.equipment. Most farmers
have more time on their
hands during this period.
By checking and ser-
vicing equipment in the
winter months, you 'will
save money and avoid
frustrations in the busy
season ahead. Winter
maintenance could also
prevent an accident from
happening on your farm.
Chain Saw Safety -.The
chain saw is a very im-
portant piece of equip -
menton many f arras. It is
also a very dangerous
tool! The majority of
chain saw injuries are
caused by kickbacks. To
avoid kickbacks, make
certain that the nose of
the cutting bar is clear of
all. obstacles. Operators
should hold their saw
securely and position
their feet properly to
counteract any kick-
backs. Thee simple
