Patterson hoped Playground would save a life
Club's Dream For
Kids Is Reality
As Park Opens
Years of planning_and_
toil were rewarded
Monday evening when,
the Kinsmen playground
and wading pool were.
declated officially open

children into the park.

Mr. Rawson announced
that the park will be open
from 10 a.m. to 12 noon
and from 1 p.m. to 5 p.m.
daily except Sunday.

supervisor for the season.
Mr. Rawson , then in-
troduced Mr.' Patterson,
whom he credited with a
major contribution to the
playground project.
After some brief
remarks by Mr. Pat-
terson, Mr. Cardiff
declared the playground,
officially oPen.. He, said
that he understood that it -
had taken several years
ter accumulate enough
funds to make the
opening possible.
"It just proves," he
said, "how much a group
a group of people can do
when they set their minds
to it and work together."
He urged citizens to
show their appreciation
by throwing coins in the
pool before they left..
After ' a few brief

the ribbon.. Said Mayor
Graham: "We cannot
find words. to thank them
(the members of the
Kinsmen Club) for' the
efforts they have put
forth here."
Following'- the
• ceremonies the children
tried out the ,shiny new
playground equipment
while the oder folks
gathered around the
bingo and and other
carnival games, - which
had been ' arranged
especially for opening
night. Refreshments
were served on the

grounds. Booths were in
• charge of members of the
Kinsmen , and Kinette
Clubs.
Besides the brand new
'wading pool, the
playground boasts a
members
awarded to Pat

life membership ever to

Goderich Kinsmen Club

Presidents" night last
week.

Mr. Patterson is one of
the charter members of'
the Goderich club, having
beep associated with it
since 1947. '
In May, 1949, he'
organized the
Octogenarian Club,
which is sponsored by the
Kinsmen. He •has been
chairman of that club
ever since.
When first organized,
the Octogenarians had
302 members; the present
membership is no* about
122. --
During the evening, the
members provided en-
tertainment for the ladies
•and a midnight banquet
was followed by dancing.,
at Melody Ranch.
