Airport..
P44!. 4 a.
visitirg:.aircraft landed at
Sky Harbour, over 5.060
Wally ' based ' aircraft"
movements ' were
recorded and nearly 600
departures of Business
Air Services aircraft,
travelling to all parts of
North America took"
place. Business • Air
Services uses jets to fly
prospective customers to
Champion Road
Machinery Limited in
Goderich to show and sell
graders. Chief Executive
Officer Bruce Sully says
BAS is a valuable sales
tool.
New airport related.
industries are con-
idering locating at Sky
Harbour but only if it is
able' to meet their needs.
The town has recognized
this and has plans to
continue to upgrade and
expand the facilities, at
Sky Harbour.
One major requirement
is to build a new and
longer runway to ac-
commodate the newer
and larger aircraft that
might wish to use the
facility. Another
requirement of high
priority is to build a
.terminal to provide
airport users withoffice
space and airmen with
. flight_planning facilities.
These items will. cost a
great deal of money and
will not be affordable in
the short term but are
attainable if planned
properly and if assistance
is received.
Sky Harbour is owned
and operated by the Town
of Goderich for the
benefitof private in
dustry and the public at
large. All operating costs
and capital expenditures
are paid for by the town
with assistance from the
county.
To continue to expand,
the town must turn to the
county and_Arants from
the Federal Government.
The airport now has a
full-time manager, Ed
'Scrota.
During Jubilee 3
celebrations a giant air
show was staged at Sky
Harbour and later on that
year there was a sky
diving competition.
Another air show is being
planned for this year.
Sky Harbour
Refinishing, better
known as the paint shop,
paints aircraft from all
over North America and
has gained an excellent
reputation under John
Edward and his crew.
A Federal Government
Weather .Station is
located at the airport. It
is used by aviation people
and others.
The airport is
necessary and essential
to the growth of the
community and • the
county as a whole. It has
progressed far .beyond
the point ever imagined
by that town clerk who
originally dreamed up
the ideain 1920.
With a bit of luck; _
financial assistance and
good management, it will
progress even more with
good benefits for all.
