to the Cruickshank
family hung in limbo until
1974. Liens on the
property caused- some
title confusion and when
the Cruickshanks sold
their interests in the
radio and television
business, they also parted
with the airport.
At this time the general
condition of the airport
had deteribrated to a'
point where Transport
Canada suspended the
airport licence in June of
1974.
. The Town of Goderich
purchased the site, all
except what was owned
by the paint shop and
Goderich Manufacturing
then, for the sum of
$120,000.
Immediately steps
were taken to improve
the airport standards and

The Goderich Sky
Harbour has undergone
an rmpressive
revitalization since the
municipality acquired it
in .1974. The town has
spent nearly $110,000 on
,river. .Domtar is ,now
filling out to the north
pier'. Industry
requirements conflict
with Snug Habour and a
controversial option is to
relocate Snug Harbour so .
it can be filled in for in-
dustrial use. .
Ariother achievement
has been the senior
citizens' housing complex
which will be built on
capital improvements to
upgrade the, airport so
that today it is classed as
an industrial airport and
is licenced for both day
and night operations.
'One direct result of this
program of revitalization
has been to take an in-
dustry that employed 12
people with an annual
payroll of approximately
$125,000 and was on the
verge of becoming
defunct and restore it so
that today the number of
people numbers more
than ' 45 with an annual
payroll of approximately
$600,000.
There are many other
indirect financial benefits
that have occurred, such
as, sales to airport usas
by local suppliers, and
sales made by local firms
because of customers and
sales personnel being
able to travel in and out of
the area conveniently and
quickly by air. Tourists
are able to have quick
access to the ,county too
because of the airport.
Since 1974, traffic ' in
'and out of Sky Harbour
Airport has increased
tenfold. In 1978 nearly 500
