rebirth of the Sailors.
After an absence of
intermediate hockey for a
few years the Goderich
Sailors Intermediate
Hockey club was back in
operation in 1972.
Intermediate hockey
was always a big drawing
card in . town but was
disbanded when Junior -B
hockey was introduced.

Junior hockey didn't
last too long and the in-
termediates were
resurrected. In January
1972 an intermediate
team was formed under
coach, Doug Cruickshank
and manager, Harry
Kerr. .Officers were
elected and the team had
exhibition games in their
plans. •
It didn't take the
Sailors long to mould a
contending team in the
area league. In 1973 the
Sailors were in their first
full season and finished in
second place in the
league standings.
They proceeded to
eliminate Seaforth from
the, playoff picture in four
straight games • and en- r

Intermediate hockey
was not that successful in
Goderich until the 1978-79
season. That season the
Sailors enjoyed modest
succes during the regular
schedule finishing near
the top of the league.
The Sailors came to life
in the playoffs and
stubbornly made their
way to the provincial
semi-final before being
eliminated by Wheatley.
in six games.
In the first round they
disposed of Wingham in
easy fashion and then
recorded an upset with
their series win over the
1Vllildmay Monarchs.
Goderich trailed in the
series but..won it in seven.
Against Wheatley the
Sailors lost the first two
games but got back in the
aeries with a 5-4 ,win at
home. they then lost 5-3 to
trail 3-1 in games but
forced a sixth game with
a 4-3 home ice win.
Wheatley wrapped the
'series with a 9-3 victory in
Wheatley.
This season, despite a
sluggish start, the Sailors
are at the top of their
division and could be
pesky in the playoffs.
