The proposed site for the complex was on a 10 acre p-ar-cel of -land across from GDCI that was owned by the Huron County Board of . Education. From meetings a complex committeewas formed to investigate the • feasibility, site and costs of the proposed complex. had formalised some la pns " and was now considering two sites for the complex. The sites were the" board of 'education land and a second proposal that the complex be. built on the race track adjacent to the arena. The complex was to include an indoor swimming pool, a health centre, a new ice pad and facilities for tennis and squash. The race track site was believed to be the better of the two proposed . locations due its central - location and that a new ice surface could be built beside the existing arena. That same year 'the recreation board con- ducted `a complex survey of 3,4p0 voters in Goder icha de rural areas. Of suureyN.,.. sheets returned, 72 per cent were in favor of building a recreation complex while 28 per cent opposed ;the idea.
