Due to lack of snow, the marathon had been cancelled twice previously but conditions on Sunday were perfect and participants took their time on the route. 'Porn in West Wawanosh, he was the 'son of .the tale William Plunkett . and Minnie - Ha.rnilton, and had 'resided in East W.awanosh for (many years on Highway 25 east of Auburn where he has • farmed.. • He was a member of Knox United Church in Auburn. - He is survived by his wife, _ ``the former Elizabeth Drennen and three sons, Alvin (Andy) Auburn, Gordon, and Donald, RR 1 Auburn; ,11 grandchildren and eight great grandchildren; one brother, Milton Plunkett of Toronto and a sister, Mrs. Grace. Campbell of Lucknow.. ,1=Ie i$ predeceased by -one sister, Mrs. Lena Plaetzer. Mr. Richard Hawley conducted. the -funeral service at the Tasker Funeral Home, Blyth, with spring interment in Bali's- cemetery, Hullett Township. . Pallbearers were grandsons, Ronald Plunkett, Robert Plunkett, David Plunkett, Stephen Plunkett, Andy Thompson, Jim Thom- son. Flowerbearers were Paul Plunkett, Daryl -Plunkett and Jeff Sangster. Relatives and friends were present from Burlington, Wingham, Lucknow, Goderich, Clinton and the surrounding district. Chimney fire guts Saltford home; two in hospital. A chimney fire at the home of Mr. and Mrs. Albert Riehl, Saltford on Friday evening, resulted in the hoti'i`e being gutted. Apparently Mr. Riehl was just going to bed when he noticed the .fire and immediately Sent in the alarm. The quick response of:the Goderich Fire Department made it possible to keep the fire under control but they could not save the house. They are indeed thank- ful that no lives were endangered for had it been an hour later, Mr. Riehl would have been in bed asleep. Mr. -Riehl at present .is a patient. in Alexandra Marine and General Hospital suf- fering from shock. Mrs. Riehl has been a patient in University Hospital, having had surgery and at present is convalescing at her daughter.Shirley''s,. Mr. ancl Mrs. Norval Smith of. London. A son Ben -Riehl of St. John's, Nfld. was home to visit his parents and brothers Reg. and Andy and on Friday, evening Mr: and Mrs. Reg Riehl and Ben were visiting with Mr. and Mrs. Andy Riehl. Her family, which included daughters tertained at a family dinner party on February 8 and Mr. and Mrs. Doug McNeil had a party on February 15 for the cousins, a splendid way of renewing friendship. All reported they en- joyed the -two -courses and while not all took both courses ' it was a project well worthwhile. One always learns something .and the friendship of the ladies and an afternoon together has its rewards. CARD PARTY There was a splendid crowd at the card party in Colborne Township Hall last Thursday evening, Valentine Day, and, all reported a very enjoyable evening. After the roll• call the girls picked the Achievement Day committee consi's'ting of Susan Pollock, Alice Nivins, Terry Marshall and Connie ' Willis. Achievement Day will be engaged in Gardening held the evening of Thursday, May 1 at Brookside School. Business for the evening was distributing of the covers for the books. The members then discussed furnishings and their arrangements in their bedrooms. The girls filled in a chart about floor plans of two bedrooms. .. The meeting was ad- journed at 9:00 p.m. and Connie Willis read the 4-H Creed. The next meeting will be Monday, February 25 at 7:00 p.m. at Colborne Township hall.
