If you look closely at the activities one can see the wee birth of the township soccer club. Our local- 'soccer- en- thusiast Tony Vandongen began an indoor soccer ' training .program with only two members. It has now enlarged' .t6 eight members plus an assistant . coach, John Preston of Clinton. All are bursting with en- thusiasm and encourage others to join on. Tuesday evenings at Holmesville school. FEBRUARY 21, 198, Auburn disputes dog bylaw At the regular meeting of the West Wawanosh township council on February 10, a delegation of two Auburn residents spoke to council regar- ding, the Dog Control by- law for Auburn. ' The trustees are taking steps to amend one section pf the by-law which many of the village residents feel is unfair and ambiguous. The delagates' action is the -result of a recent shooting of an Auburn dog by the township. In other -council pusiness, Neil Stapleton appeared before; council to claim land and crop damage caused by logs owned by the municipality being dra wn across his land. Council agreed to pay Stapleton $55 for damages. Resolutions received from the village of Madoc and the township of Brock with regard to current interest rates and the metric system were discussed. Council " concurred with the resolutions that the . Treasurer of Ontario and the federal Ministry of Finance be requested to introduce' programs to 'offer lower interest rates, t,q small, businesses, and that the federal gover. nment be 'requested to defer any further im- plementation of the metric system. On February 16 it was reported that someone had stolen a 16 foot by four foot campaign poster from outside the Liberal committee rboms on NewgateStreet. On February 15 about 11:30 p.m. it was reported that two youths had ripped off some aluminum siding from a house on Brock Street. Due to road conditions, there were several motor vehicle accidents over the weekend. accidents At noon on February 16 a vehicle which was parked and left running .on the Square while the driver went into a store, somehow slipped out of gear and ran into the front of. another store causing minor damage. At 4:39 p.m. the same day.a vehicle slid on some ice at the Five Points and hit a traffic island. Ten minutes later at the same location, a truck , hit a cement hydro pole. - .At 10:45,p.m. a Texaco tanker truck negotiating a turn knocked over a light pole at Huron and BORED?? CHECK THIS OUT,... At 1:10 a.m, in February 16 a driver ran into , a • hydro pole on Victoria Street, breaking it off and 'damaging a highway silgn. There was $1500 damage to the vehicle,and the driver has been charged with careless driving. On February 17 a vehicle which had' had the keys left in it was stolen and driven a short distance. There was no damage. On February 18 at 1:10 p.m. the driver of a van parked his vehicle on North Street and' went into a building for about three minutes. When he eame out, his van wouldn't start and he noticed that the wires had been torn off his engine by someone. Also on February 18 at 10:45 p,m. a woman left her car parked and running while she ran into a store on Hamilton Street. The car ,,slipped out of gear and hit the glass door of a building causing $200 damage. One of the nicest things about growing old is that you find your 'children crossing the generation • gap to -your side.
