More than 15 million
Canadians are eligible -to
vote in the country's 282
electoral districts. A total
of 11,537,909 votes were
'cast in the last general
election May22nd, 1979 --
about 766:per ,cent of the
15.2 million voters whose
names were .on the final
voters' lists. .
The electoral districts
area divided, into some
60,000 polling divisions,
each with a polling
station or place to vote..
The Returning Officer of
each district appoints a
deputy and a polling clerk
for each polling station.

name must be
on the finalist of voters
in order to cast a ballot.
But if you are a rural
voter, you may vote
(even if your name is not
on the list) provided you
are vouched for by
another elector whose
name is on the voters' list
of your polling division.

Some members of the Beta Sigma Phi Sorority got
together last week to count the money collected by
canvassers in the March of Dimes Ability Fund

before, here's what to
expect when you enter
your polling station:
- You will give your
narne to the deputy
returning officer who will
check to see that your.
name is' on the official•
voters' list. If so,.you will
receive a " ballot for.

- On the ballot paper
you will find the names of
candidates listed
alphabetically; and the
political affiliation (if
any) of each candidate
printed under the name:
You will vote for one
'candidate, by marking an
tli-e circle beside -
his or her name. No ballot
will be acceptedwhich
contains any mark that
will identify the voter.
- You will then 'refold
the ballot and give it to
the deputy returning
officer who will deposit it
into the .ballot box.
- After the closing of the.
poll, the ballot box- will be
opened in the presence of
agents of the candidates.
UWO to hold .winter special games for handicapped
The University of
Western Ontario's eighth
annual Winter Special
Games for mentally
handicapped children
will be a little more like
high-level
competition this year
with the addition of real
medials provided by the
Ontario and . Canadian -
Olympics organizations.

Despite a reduction in
Wintario funding for the
games this year,
organizer Professor
Conrad Milne' of the—
Faculty
heFaculty of Physical
Education expects this
year's games , to be the
biggest to date.
About 400 children are

schools in six .surroun-
ding counties including
Elgin, Essex, Kent,
Lambton, Huron, and for
the first time, Brant. •

drawn from both special
schools and mixed public
schools rangein age_fr.oin.

games this year are
returning from previous
years, according to Prof.

council meets

regarding the pedestrian
access to the beach
before it is given to the
subdivision•plan.
A letter from the Town
of Goderich requesting a
joint meeting_to study the.
impact of the town's
annexation plan was
tabled for further'con-
sideration.
A resolution from the
Township • of Brock
regarding the post-
ponemera- 61—`metric
systems was ' concurred
with by Goderich
Township Council.
.Council then adjourned
until February 14. -•

actively involved in this

opening of the games and

companying the children
during the games.
UWO students also held
a -charity- dance in Thames Hall on
February 9 to help raise
money for the games. ,
