hold on first place in the
North Division of the
SHHL losing two,„ games
to the Zurich Buckeyes.
The Merchants, who
have been 'riddled with
injuries of late, lost two
games to the Buckeyes, 5-
4 in Goderich and 9-1 in
Zurich. They rebounded
for ,a 5-4 win over Hensall
here Monday on a late
goal by John Hoy.
Zurich will likely win
the division title as they
have,,, three games
remaining • while the
Merchants have one.
Manager Ken Fagan
said the team is likely to
finish third in the overall
standings behind Zurich
and Centralia, leaders of
_ the South Division. '
The Merchants have
one more league
,remaining against
Exeter and will likely
begin their playoffs
February 25.
In the game against
Hensall here Monday the
Merchants rallied from a
•
2-'1 first period deficit
• with two goals in both the
second and third periods
to claim the 5-4 victory.
Phil Petrie scored the
Merchant first period
goal while Dave Graf and
• Greg Hansen added
second period goals.,
They trailed 4-3 in the
final period before Paul
Schaefer tied the game
with his first goal and
John Hoy scored the
winner late in the game.
The Merchants should
be healthy for the.
playoffs and playing only
one game in the next two
weeks will help.
While they sputtered
somewhat in the loss
column the goaltending
duo of Doug Spitzig and
Doug Fisher remains the
stingiest_ in -the- league-,
They are likely to repeat
as the - league's top
goaltending pair.
This weekend the '
Merchants are staging a
50s dance at the Arena to
raise money for the club
and tickets are available
from Ken Feagan.
