Dr Lawrence'
Whytehead, co-author of
a report on "Dying:
Considerations Con-
cerning the Passagetfrom

General Synod of the
Anglican Church of
Canada says, `Quite
often it the the doctor that

life should be continued.
In that case he ought. to
talk with the family and
have a full discussion and
explain the outlook from

They will need time to
think this over. They
should have support from
the hospital chaplain or
their own minister. .So'it
is a joint decision. And
that is true also for the
infant ,who cannot make.
decisions for himself."
The 64 page report, the
:finaldraft of whish_-w;i-1-1-
be presented, to the
Anglican Church's
National Executive
Council in November,
deals with several highly -
sensitive areas.
What is a person?

Who decides when life

Howcan we best.

Preparing for death,
and the Christian
response to death.
Canon Paul Chidwick,
th'e • report's other co-
author, said, "I suppose
worry or anxiety over
decisions that have
already been made."
Dr. Whytehead feels
that the primary purpose
of the report is to raise
questions.
"We're not trying to
impose predetermined
positions on people'," he
declared.
"It is not a position
paper. These questions
have to be decided by the
individual. I'm not a
person who believes, in
church dogma - in
authoritative decisions
given from • on high.

decisions which are being
made by doctors and by
families. Maybe trying to.

port is no longer proper
and Christian."
The authors hope that
the paper will be
published and read
widely, .. not only by
Anglicanso but by other
Christians and society at
large. Dr. Whytehead
added one more hope,
"that discussion and
comment will be based -on
a thorough reading of the
