.., exacerbates the
roeess -further, with
• Aendjess evidentiary
':•problems, procedural
pitfalls, etc.
Almost inevitably, it :
seems,: the incidence; of
white collar crime will
contin!ue<' - to increase
geeatly. With the' advent.
of•the" cashless society, in
particular introduction..of
Eleetro,(nic ,Funds
Transfer Systems, : .we
may well see a sharp
drop in such crimes as,
cheque forgery, coun-
terfeiting and perhaps
even street muggings.
Crime will become more
technical, more
sophisticated,
In attempting to for-
mulate a solution,
numerous factors must
be considered. What is an
appropriate deterrent?
Given the socio-economic
background of the ac-
cused, and the cor-
poration's involvement,
do we need higher fines,
greater use of jail sen-
tences, more publicity
about those eventually
convicted?
What preventative
measures are possible?
Is there sufficient
screening of Personnel
engaged in computer
facilities; to what extent.
are employees having
access to computers
rotated- periodically 'in
their fumes so Tfiat
they are not in a position
to concoct an extensive
fraud scheme? Are the
functional respon-
•sibilities of a firm suf-
ficiently fragmented and
dispers.ed.._...among. ...a...
number of. employees,
thus giving no one per-
sonfull---- carriage of a
financial process which
would permit. . per,
petration of a fraud which
would go undetected by
other employees?
Investigation • can ,.be
difficult. Financial and
business institutions are
usually the ,first to un-
cover the crimes. They
often conduct their own
' -investigations aid "only
involve the police without
delay.
It has been' said that
police investigation of
white collar crime, is
costly, involving inor-
dinate amounts of time,
resources and • man-
power. When setting
priorities, should there
not be greater emphasis
on cxiine of this
magnitude, • given its
social cost and the need to
avoid the perception that
law enforcement may not
be as diligent in stamping
out white collar prime as
it.is-in dealing with street
crime?

Like .grapefruit, oranges are an excellent
source of vitamin C, which the body needs to •
replace daily in order to :maintain good stand-
ards of health. A greater percentage of vita-
min C and other health giving properties are
obtained when the juice and pulp are eaten.
There is more iron in the total edible part of
an orange than in the peel; thus, one of the
reasons for recommending eating the whole,
edible portion of fresh- oranges, rather than
just the juice. Much more nutritious! Oranges
are low in sodium and calories. One medium
orange Contains -45 calories.
