Hydro sets all-time
record for export sales
. Ontario Hydro • set an
all-time record for export
power sales to the United
States in 1979.
Approximately 11.7
billion kilowatt-hours of
electricity were sold to
the U.S. last year with a
net revenue of $154
million (Canadian).
A new peak demand
record was also set last
year. The Ontario peak
(the most electricity
needed at one particular
time of day) reached
•16 468 000 kilowatts
(preliminary) at 17:20 on
December 17, 1979. The
previous peak demand
record was 16,252,000
kilowatts on January 15,
1979. Ontario consumers
used about 98.2 billion
kilowatt hours in 1979, 2.9
percent higher,than 1978.
Because of the lower
than expected growth
forecasts, Hydro's
construction program
last year was slowed
down and operations at
several ----generating
stations were reduced.
The lower growth
estimates reflected lower
economic growth and
conservation efforts of
Hydro customers.
