Martha Rathburn cards are - you declared that at the start of the game. So, that settles THAT.. Anyway, I enjoy the bridge and play two or three nights - they always start sharp at seven and you're finished the 16 hands, or whatever°it is, befoi e.--terr-o' cl-tn.-;tT late hours here! Not a bit like "back home".! We have had fresh grapefruit - Walt and his brother pick them in the, park and they surely are swee.t....,.- aand--- nLce. •. Yesterday I picked four beautiful, ripe tangerines - could have had more but I like the idea of picking them fresh. The trees are beautiful, with their dark green, shiny leaves and bright orange fruit - even the lemons are lovely. They have big lemons..as•heavy as a big grapefruit that are so sweet - just right for pies. I've never seen these big"' ones on the market. They' are scarce! With all the cool weather up north, we have had some cool nights here but no frost so far. Oh, by the way, I want to thank Elsa Haydbn for. sharing her letter regarding the privilege 9f paying the "local taxes. Somehow, I have always felt the same way about. it. ,,We have no children attending schools, we don't use our parks or pools and .I go to the library so seldom that I end up just about paying for the 'book. But, as I see it, other people's children need those schools and all the other things we pay taxe's for. And we enjoy good roads in our town, ex- cellent police and fire protection and other. necessary services. We have the privilege of voting for the people who manage odr con- tributions and we are welcome at the council meeting even.tf wehave a gripe. What more can you expect or want? If there IS more - you can do something about it and it makes you feel you really belong when youdo speak up. When you read of the waste of the government tax money, it makes you appreciate the good things we take- for granted year after year. We have a lovely town - enjoy it. Love to all of you. Martha W.
