defeated. The Victoria
Sweepers ••were • swept
away by the, precise ef-

Hawkins .and Bogie to the
score- of 14-3.. It was a
. very difficult game for
the elementary teachers
who curledso well last
. week to gain their first .
triumph but their
disappointment has been
experienced by every
team to meet the
• Foresters so far • this
year.
Everyone has heard of
Ma Bell. While the for-
merly undefeated
• Am.s.z.q. HospitalNo. 1
.unit ran into a new cor-
poration called Mit-
•••chelmore Bell as three
Mitchelmore ladies; Del,
Debbie • and- Diane,
teamed up with Jim Bell
and clobbered the
Hospital foursome. The
victory moved the
Assessment offfe-e into
• third lace while. Ron
Klages and friends find
themselves in a new
• position - second. -
The GDCI Teacher No.
1 team was handed their
• second loss of the Season'
in convincing fashion by
the Oom Club. The final
score -of 7-5 is a favor to
the teachers • since the
• Oom Club never trailed in
the match. Excellent first
end curling which saw
seven of eight shots hit
their target resulted in a
big .three ender for the
foursome of McDonald,
MacLennan, DeBolt and
Collins who were equally
• • strong for their club. Bill
• Worsell and Doug Bundy
• provided the spark that at
least kept the defeated
teachers close throughout
the game.

team. Erskine's strong
curling 'and calm
leadership guided the
V&G unit to a hard fought
6-5, win. The win also
extended Eleanor
Erskine's personal win
• streak to four. An injured
Charlie Crawford still
gave the local union reps
a fine game.
Everything went right
for the Huron County,
• Health Unit in their
competition with the
•Maitland Golfers. As a
result, when the .match
concluded the Health
Unit walked away with a
13-5 decision. Fine per-
formances by Mr. and
Mrs. Paquette showed
the .way for the victors
while 4u -e White provided
some relief in. a game
where, everything went
wrong for the golfers.
The Victoria Hardrocks
moved their win total to
three with an impresgive
display over the
Champion Ladies that
resulted in a 9-4 victory.
The short :banded
teachers did not let their
disadvantage bother
them as, they controlled
the game from the
opening minutes. Barb
Lade was the standout for
the successful educators
while Marg DeBolt could

Little tops first
level in chess club
Louis Stadelmann
picked up his fifteenth
win of the season last
week to tie for the club
lead in victories and
strengthen his hold on
second place. Doug
Brindley won' both of his
games to keep himself
well in contention for first
place.
In Level 2 play, Steve
Hamill won his only
game of the evening to
move into'second place.
Barry Page . took over
' the lead in Level 3 with
his seventh win of the
season. He is being hotly
pursued• by • Owen
Moriarty who is only :027
behind. Mike Cox,
although his record
doesn't show it had been
playing some very strong
chess this year as he held
Louis Stadelmann off for
three hours before finally
losing the match.

in the battle for the most
improved player •award
with Doug Brindley
holding a small lead over
both Mike and Owen

The district plAydown
for ' the Ontario High
School curling was at the
club Jan. -;-1,6. The
Goderich team skipped
by Kevin Dykstra with
Kevin Bundy, vice; Greg
Hallam, secondend lead,
Lou DeWinter,• -were
finally defeated by
Clinton, the district
winner. The Rose Bowl
playdowns were finally
won last night by Bob
Dempsey's team, Bob's
team deserved the win.
Theycurled well .against
strong „opposition, and
Bob's playing was almost
perfect.
