Him for His that proceeded His public public ministry. life • What do we know about this period of time? The only real glimpse we have was -when Jesus visited the -temple in Jerusalem with His parents when He was 12 years' old. It was probably at this timethat He entered, by a formal religious ceremony, into the adult world . of men. And when Mary and Joseph found Him after three days of frantic search, ,.fie went back with them to Nazareth • It had to be during this time, while He was under the ,.care and guidance of Josephs and Mary, that Jesus developed that personality that drew men to Him so ,ef- fectively. It, had to be during these years that Jesus grew in wisdon, but most of all in grace. An 'older version of the Gospels puts, it this way: "and Jesus advanced in wisdom and age and grace before God and men"• (]Nuke 2:32). And ; who was most involved in His for- mation? His parents, Joseph of cry hidden under the cloak of a humanity that was completely like our own. As` St. Paul puts4it, He "emptied" Himself, sinister stu and Mary, no doubt. It -had to be this way if we accept that Jesus was truly human. He had to learn to read and write, to be sociable, to be patient,, to be concerned for others, to share, to pray, just like - any other member of the human race.. His divinity was taking on our human nature. And it must have been during those hidden years of growing up in Nazareth that Jesus achieved that perfection of 'nature and grace that would bring forth from the Father' in Heaven these words at His Baptism:. _in 'You .are my -Son, the Beloved,' my favour rests on you" (Luke 3:22) Such thoughts bring us bac ,to His parents, Joseph and Mary. If children bring renown to parents by their suc- cesses., then it is. un- derstandable .why Christians hold Joseph and Mary in such high,. Wee* They were the ones who ".guided, and ,°formed Jesus. It was through their faithful efforts that He was able to be a "light" for men and eventually . bring salvation to the world. We know that Mary was prepared uniquely for her role as mother of the Saviour from the first moment of her con- ception in her mother's womb. We know very little about Joseph. But the fact that he was chosen to be the spouse of Mary and Chester McWhinney celebrates 90th Mrs. Elsie Henderson was at the organ, and Frank Bissett played the piano at the Sunday morning service, while Margaret McQueen and Elsie Henderson -sang the duet Why Do Bells" for Christmas Ring. • __'."19 r .He1uiersnn-played her bells to the tune of Ring • Bells of Heaven accompanied by Frank at the organ :,.rand ,Elsie serenaded the residents en Christmas morn by going throughout the home playing Wish You a Merry Christmas on her bells.
